Development Astra Motor III (ASMO) needed to increase its production capacity by 2.5 times to meet strong
market demand, but upgrading its existing server infrastructure to manage the additional
requirements would prove costly. ASMO needed a cost-effective solution to handle the added
data processing needs the higher production capacity demanded. The company decided to
move their server infrastructure to run on Intel® Itanium® 2 processors after calculating that
the migration would give them the performance they needed within their budget.

capabilities quickly without disrupting daily operations.
• Select a stable, reliable and cost-effective platform that can
handle the higher data processing requirements brought on by
the increased production capacity.

ASMO is a subsidiary of PT Astra International Tbk, the biggest conglomerate in Indonesia, and
manufactures motor vehicles in partnership with world leading brands. ASMO’s backend servers
were already running at an average of 70 percent processor usage. With the planned capacity
increase, the output of the Daihatsu* production lines alone would increase five-fold, from a
monthly output of 2,000 cars to 10,000 cars per month. This meant that the associated data to
be processed by their backend servers would also experience a corresponding increase.
