After Action Assessment

1. Assets

My assets for this assignment again included timely submission, proper formatting, and the

correct word count. I found the word count very difficult to comply with this time I had to omit

much of my paper because I was over the allotted word maximum. I used correct pronouns

throughout my essay this was simple on an informative essay because it is stating facts not my

opinion or my thoughts. Finally, my assets were my intro and conclusion. This was great news

for me especially seeing best in class, because I normally struggle with my introductions and

conclusions. I found I spent the most time on my introduction and conclusions researching ideas,

writing, editing, rewriting and editing again. However, I also had fun writing them, so I am glad

it showed in my paper.

2. Opportunities

First it was brought to my attentions the qdt in my citation should be lowercase I

struggled with that decision and changed it five times from uppercase to lowercase. Next, that I

still need more review of the rules of in text citation because some were still not properly

formatted into my paper. I also made the mistake of add details into the topic sentence of my

third paragraph. Finally, that even though I had tried to change all the names to Holmes in my

paper I missed one and still referred to him as Mudgett. This was a complete oversite on my part

in the editing process.

3. Lesson and Homework Plan

Since I am still having trouble with in-text citations I have decided to find a

printable hand out. A cheat sheet for dummies in a sense something with the basics and

examples of the basics.

I also found a site that further goes into detail the rules for placing the parenthetical

citation to save as a resource. This one is a little too long to keep in front of me as I write,

but saving it as a bookmark will help if I am ever questioning how to place my citation.

Next, since I did not correctly format on of my topic sentences I found if prudent

that I review the basics of topic sentences for body paragraphs. So I used resources I

found on the internet to give myself a crash refresher course in topic sentences and why

they are important in the body of a paper. A topic sentence in a body paragraph should tie

the paragraph back to the thesis and not include details.

Finally, my professor was disappointed that I did not use more APUS library

resources. However, I found tons or information on Holmes I even utilized the librarians to find

more. The reason more were not cited in my paper and listed on my work cites page is because I

was told that the word count was based on the word count Microsoft Word reported. Microsoft

word includes the Works Cited page in it word count and adding even just the citation on the

Works Cited page put me well over the allotted word count not even including adding it into the

body of my paper. I had more citations in my initial draft that was never posted but they got

omitted due to the word count.

4. Future plans/ Progress made

I have decided to do my cause and effect essay on the developmental causes of

psychopathy, it is so sad to think that because of their disorder people often forget the

trauma they experienced in childhood that caused it. I am already making about outline

for the paper and finding a lot of resources. They paper will require a little information of

psychopathy and a lot of information on developmental psychology.
