1- If the some students have struggle coping or continue or create the patterns.
Solutions:
1- The teacher will point in the simple repeating patterns to show the students how to copy and what
they have in these patterns and what will come next? to continue the patterns (Copying ,
continue). She will ask them to say what they create.(Creating simple patterns)
2- The teacher will remind the students that they have to share with their partners.
3- The teacher will remind them about the classroom rules and she will do some strategies that they
know it.
Lesson Schedule
Targeted teacher language:
Pattern, repeat, copy , continue
Student language:
Pattern , repeat, copy , continue
Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:
5 minutes
The students teacher will introduce the lesson by saying today we are going to learn about
patterns. She will explain the meaning of 4 key words (Pattern, repeat, copy, continue) by using
four flash cards on the board. The student teacher will introduce about the meaning of the word
pattern by demonstrating some examples include shapes and some things in the class show
pattern. Also, she will draw some different shapes that don't represent the pattern and ask the
students "is it pattern?" She will ask them to say why isn't a pattern? She will point to one of
the examples of pattern and say it repeats which means the same thing again. She will give
some students chances to make their patterns to let the other students recognize the meaning of
the patterns. Also, she will explain what the meaning of copy by showing an example of simple
repeating pattern using manipulatives and pattern in flash card.
For continue she will ask 2 students to come in front of the class and ask the first student to clap
once and the second student clap twice then she will ask the students what do think will come
next? If I call one of the students will he clap once or twice to continue the pattern?
-She will model how to copy and continue the patterns. Next, she will ask the students some
questions to guide them in order to teach them how to copy and continue simple repeating
patterns in the book. For example, she will ask which circle is the first circle. (Copying the
patterns) and what is coming next? Or how we can continue this pattern? (Continue the
patterns). For creating simple repeating patterns she will model one example and ask the
students to create their own. She will ask one or two students to come and share his\ their own
patterns with the whole class.
-When they will finish two pages (54 and 55), the student teacher will ask them to collect their
books and she will put the materials on their tables.
- She will put patterns sheets for emerging and developing groups depends on their levels and
put the appropriate manipulative for them. For example, for emerging students she will provide
patterns sheet represent coping the patterns and they use plastic colorful circles. And for
developing she will provide pattern sheet has continuing patterns which they will use cubes to
make the patterns. For the master group she will provide box has several cut fruits (apples,
oranges, grapes) and plastic plates to create their patterns. She will put a model for them to
guide them create their own fruit patterns.
- She will ask them to share the materials and work in groups that to guide them to share
their ideas and discuss about the patterns they made.
- She will walk around the students and help the students if they need and explain to them why
they make something wrong.
Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 5 minutes
The student teacher will provide small worksheets to the students that have questions about patterns. The
worksheet like assessment for the students and the questions are depends on their levels. For instance, for
emerging students they will copy the patterns only in order to assess them if they recognize how to copy the
pattern. For developing students the questions will be about continuing the patterns to assess if they
understand how continue the patterns they see. For master students the question will be about creating
simple repeating patterns using something in the class to assess them if they can copy, continue and create
patterns of familiar things around them.
