Clash of Civilizations

Introduction
In this brief document I will talk a little bit about the book Clash of Civilizations

which was written by the American political scientist Samuel P. Huntington and

published in 1996, this book was written in response to his former student Francis

Fukuyama who wrote a book called The End of History and the Last Man.

Huntingtons hypothesis basic hypothesis states that people's cultural and

religious identities will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War

world, future wars would be fought not between countries, but between cultures,

and that Islamic extremism would become the biggest threat to world peace.

Some of the most important ideas from this text will be demonstrated on a

Conceptual Map in which I will exemplify some of the information I found to be of

outmost importance.

Conclusion

In my opinion I liked how Huntington expressed his ideas and I think that his work

is very well written and detailed but I dont agree completely with his stances, for

example I think he took for granted that civilizations are more cooperative with

each other than he thought, in the last years people have become more acceptant

of different cultures and religions contrary to what he said, that culture would be

the reason many civilization would clash and fight.

But also I think he has a point that western culture has become almost inevitable in

our society, we see it everywhere from hollywood to musical artists and american

companies, western culture has expanded so much we dont even distinguish it as

not being part of our culture. Overall, it was a very interesting read and I will conti-

nue to investigate about the social phenomena Huntington writes about.
