With the fast development of voice services and data services, the demands for bandwidth in metropolitan area

network (MAN) are increasing dramatically. By adopting state-of-the-art CWDM/DWDM (Dense Wavelength

Division Multiplexing) technology and OADM (Optical Add/Drop Multiplexing) technology, Metro WDM

systems demonstrate a large capacity and simple networking scheme for the existing and future services.

Furthermore, one set of Metro WDM equipment can access, aggregate, and transport almost all of the services

with multi-rate, multi-protocol transparently, thus greatly reduces the operator's investment and lowers the

OAM (Operation, Administration and Maintenance) cost. Nowadays, Metro WDM solution has become a

prevailing trend for metropolitan area transport network.

OptiX Metro6000 series products are CWDM/DWDM-based MSTP (multi-service transport platform) cus-

tomer-tailored by Huawei Technologies for MAN, enterprise area network, Storage Area Network (SAN), dark

fiber, etc. Metro6000 series is a complete collection for access/edge and core layers (Fig.1).

Large capacity
DWDM on C-band makes OptiX Metro6100 establish 64-channel network with no protection or 32-channel network

with optical channel protection with the total capacity of up to 320G. OptiX Metro6040 box-type equipment can add/

drop 4 channels directly, 12 wavelengths added /dropped by equipment concatenation.

Aggregation function for multiple low rate signals

Low rate signals can be aggregated by TMUX unit. They are independent each other on the line and can be used and

managed easily just as a sub-wavelength. The important X-rate transponder (34Mbps~2.5Gbps) is developed with 3R

function.

Flexible networking and scalability

Metro6000 series can implement point-to-point, chain, ring network and the service on the network can be

interconnected as mesh topology. The circumference of a ring can reach 6
24dB for 2.5Gbps rate network and 6

17dB for 10Gbps network. One optical span can reach up to 120km (35dB). The network capacity can be scalable

on customer demands, which brings down the initial investment.

Metro6000 system provide multiple protection mechanism, including optical channel protection (Dual feed & signal

selection OTU ), 1
1 OTU protection modes, Delivering differentiated services according to demand

Convenient OAM system design and easy networking OAM

To guarantee the transport quality, B1, B2, J0 bytes check for SDH/SONET/ATM/POS traffic and packet-error check

for GE service are supported. Built-in optical spectrum analyzer allows on-line optical channel analysis, such as the

optical power, OSNR and central wavelength. This is a very important function to facilitate remote supervision

maintenance and management for operators.
