1. What is the topic of your lesson?

Empathy

2. Why are you teaching this lesson? What is your rationale for teaching it?

It is important for children to know what empathy is and how they can implement
it, so they can better understand those around them.

3. What is your Teaching Behavior Focus? Why did you choose this?

I chose to focus on wait time because I noticed with other lessons I teach that I
dont wait long before calling on the kid who raised their hand first.

4. Why did you design your instruction in this lesson the way that you did? Why did
you choose this way of teaching the lesson (e.g., Was the idea from a methods
course? From your mentor teacher? Another source?)

I structured this lesson around a read aloud followed by and activity to build on
the ideas from the book. I learned about this in my reading methods course.

5. As you are thinking through this lesson, what do you believe will be the most
challenging part of this lesson for you when you teach it? Why?

The most challenging part will be making sure the kids have a good grasp on the
idea of empathy so they can easily brainstorm how to implement it in their life.

6. How will you know if your learning outcomes for the students are met
successfully?

I will know because the kids will all add their ideas on how to show empathy to
the class poster.
7. How will your classroom management support the learning outcomes?
Allowing the kids to have multiple types of discourse throughout the lesson will
help them understand the idea of empathy better because they will hear it from
me, the book, and their classmates.

8. List 1-3 areas which you would like for your observer to pay particular attention.
Why do you want your observer to focus on these areas?
Wait time
Volume level of me vs. class
Smooth transitions from class centered discussions to teacher centered
discussions.

9. Is there anything else you would like your observer to know before the
observation?
No
