CHAPTER 5

Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation

SUMMARY

The study consisted of internet researches in the subject

of Public Comfort Room Sanitation in relation to Public Health.

The venues selected for the study were the Cabanatuan City

Public Market (CCPM) and the Cabanatuan Central Transport

Terminal (CCTT).

The survey respondents consisted of 50 users of CCPM and

50 users of CCTT including their demographic profiles.

The research methodology applied were basic statistical

technique, thru the use of survey questionnaire in data

collection focusing on the perception and assessment of users of

the CCPM and CCTT consisting of vendors, shoppers and travelers.

The comparative survey includes structure, facilities and

maintenance and sanitary conditions of the CCPM and CCTT.

CONCLUSION

After a thorough analysis of the results of the survey

among the users and clientele of the two public institution, the

Cabanatuan City Public Market and the Cabanatuan Central

48

Transport Terminal, the researchers arrived at the following

conclusions:

There is a very wide disparity in the sanitation systems

and procedures due to the following:

- Time of establishment of the facility

- Social Status of user

- Public Awareness of the need for a sanitary public

toilet

- Apathy in the part of the management for the necessity

of a sanitary public toilet

- Necessity of a more responsible management and

frontline utility services

Cabanatuan Public Market is cleaner and better maintain

than the Cabanatuan Central Transport Terminal.

Based on the results of the survey conducted by our study

group we conclude that the facilities and maintenance of public

comfort rooms at the Cabanatuan City Public Market is excellent

while those at the Cabanatuan Transport Terminal are poor. These

include the flush system, faucet, water, soap, tissue and

sanitary napkins availability, garbage can and mirror.

49

Therefore, the structure and facilities at the Cabanatuan

City Transport Terminal needs improvements in these areas of

public health.

The survey on health concerns include hand washing after

use of public comfort rooms and UTI as the common disease which

may be transmitted trough unhealthy ways in public comfort

rooms.

Finally, almost all the respondents are willing to give

financial support for a comfortable, well maintained and clean

comfort rooms.

RECOMMENDATION

Based on the foregoing study it is with utmost concern

and keen sense of mission that the researchers propose the

following:

a. Renovation and improvement of both the Cabanatuan City

Public Market and the Cabanatuan Central Transport

Terminal taking into account health, environmental and

cost concern.

b. Department of Health Office to conduct inspection of

public comfort rooms, taking into account the standard

of Sanitation and Health concerns.

50

c. The City Government pass an ordinance on standards of

public toilets concerning public and private

establishments.

d. Management of the public and commercial buildings to

conduct health forum for its regular clients, tenants

and occupants.

e. Representation to the Department of Education to

include in the curriculum a special health subject on

the proper use of public toilet and private bathrooms.

f. The Sanguniang Lungsod of Cabanautan should pass a

health ordinance covering the operations of public

comfort rooms.

g. Management of public and commercial establishments

should formulate their own guidelines in the

maintenance of public comfort rooms in their areas of

responsibilities.

h. Tenants, stall holders and other regular clients

should be made aware of the proper and healthy way in

using public comfort rooms through seminars and

dialogues.

i. Posters and notices should be post for the information

of all concerned.
51

Lastly, but not the least, the members of the research

team volunteers to act as health ambassadors on the subject

study in any chance we may have in all our public dealings and

commit to devote and dedicate time on the dissemination and

advocacy of healthy public comfort rooms at least in the Nueva

Ecija Doctors Colleges.
