My Mentor
Mallary McKinzie is the manager at the VCA
Animal Emergency Hospital on Calder Road. She
was first a veterinary technician for many years
and then moved up to management. She has a
passion for working with the emergency hospital
rather than a day practice because everyday is
something completely new. Ms. McKinzie also
enjoys the emergency hospitals' in house
pharmacy and lab so patients can be
diagnosed and treated within just a few minutes.
ISM
ISM allows students to pick one mentor a
semester and get experience in fields they
may find interested in pursuing as a career.
Each student has to complete 3 hours
minimum with their mentor each week. They
also are responsible for researching and
creating a final presentation over a topic of
their choosing that relates to the career they
have been studying at their mentorship site.
 My Project Topic

My project topic is over military dogs and

the common, but very serious, wounds
seen on them.
My project is to research everything I need
to know about 3 common wounds such as,
burns, gunshots, and shrapnel.
I will research ways to efficiently treat each
wounds with limited resources
I will also research the conditions the dogs
are in after they have healed, seeing
where most complications may lie.
 My Project

I chose this topic because I am looking into

being an active duty veterinarian for the US
military.
This topic allows me to learn about common
conditions that I would one day be treating.

For my product I will show a bring a

representation of a medics vest that I could
be seen wearing holding supplies that
would be commonly found on them
I will decide once my research is done,
which supplies should be put in and the
amount I would need to bring.
What I Hope to Learn
