Example of Experimental Framework Questions.

(Paper 3 Section B)
Question on angle of inclination and speed of motion (F4: 2.1 Linear Motion)

Inference The acceleration of moving object depends on the angle of inclination.

Hypothesis When the angle of inclination increases the acceleration also increases
Aim To investigate the relationship between angle of inclination and
acceleration
Variables Manipulated Variable: angle of inclination, h (measure as the height of the
end of runway from the ground)
Responding Variable: acceleration, a
Fixed Variable: mass of the trolley
Apparatus Trolley, ticker timer, runway, power supply, ticker tape, brick, soft board
and meter rule.
Set Up
Diagram

Procedure 1.The apparatus is set up as shown in the diagram above

2.The trolley is placed at 1 m from the end of the runway.
3.The end of the runway is raised up 5.0 cm from the horizontal
4.The trolley is released down the runway.
5.The acceleration of the trolley is obtained from the analysis of the
ticker tape.
6. The experiment is repeated with height, h= 10.0 cm, 15.0 cm , 20.0 cm
and 25.0 cm
Tabulation of Data obtained will be tabulated in a table as shown below.
data Height, h / cm Acceleration
a / cm s-2

10.0
15.0
20.0
25.0

Analysis of Data obtained will be analysed by plotting a graph as shown below
