(Paper 3 Section B) Question on force and acceleration (F4: 2.4 Effect of a force)
Inference Acceleration depends on force
Hypothesis The greater the force, the greater the acceleration
Aim To investigate the relationship between force and acceleration of an object
of constant mass Variables Manipulated Variable: Force, F Responding Variable : Acceleration, a Fixed Variable : Mass Apparatus Runway, AC power supply, trolley, ticker timer, ruler, Five slotted weight of 5N (500g), pulley, stopping block, string. Setup Diagram
Procedure 1. Setup a friction compensated runway as shown in the diagram
2. Put a weight of 5N on the hanger and let it to fall 3. Calculate the acceleration by analysing the ticker tape 4. Repeat the experiment by adding slotted weight of 10N, 15 N, 20 N and 25 N to the hanger
Tabulation of Data obtained will be tabulated in a table as shown below.
data F/N a/ms-2 5 10 15 20 2.5
Analysis of Data obtained will be analysed by plotting a graph as shown below
