(Paper 3 Section B) Question on mass of object and its pressure exerted (F4: 3.1 Pressure)
Inference The pressure exerted by an object depends on its mass
Hypothesis When the mass of an object increases, its pressure also increases Aim To investigate the relationship between mass of an object and the pressure exerted Variables Manipulated Variable: Mass of object, m Responding Variable: Pressure exerted by object, P (Measure by the depth of depression made on the plasticine) Fixed Variable: Height of the object drop from Apparatus Plasticine, slotted weight and meter rule Set Up Diagram
Procedure 1. The apparatus is set up as shown in the diagram above
2. Start the experiment with a mass of 50 g 3. Drop a weight of 50 g on the surface of the plasticine. 4. Measure the depth of depression made on the plasticine 5. The experiment is repeated for mass of 60.0 g, 70.0 g, 80.0 g and 90.0 g
Tabulation of Data obtained will be tabulated in a table as shown below.
data Mass, m/g Depth of depression, P/cm 20.0 40.0 60.0 80.0 100.0 Analysis of Data obtained will be analysed by plotting a graph as shown below Data P /cm
