NASA ASTRONAUTS, ORION PROJECT MANAGERS TO VISIT PHOENIX

NASA astronauts and managers of the Orion Project, America’s

spacecraft for a new generation of explorers, will recognize the
Phoenix community’s role in space exploration this week.

The astronauts and managers will be in Phoenix to participate in a

quarterly status review of the Orion Project, which is designing
spacecraft and support systems that will enable voyages to the moon,
Mars and beyond. Honeywell Aerospace, headquartered in Phoenix, is
working with Lockheed Martin and NASA to design, develop and produce
much of the computerized navigation hardware and software, displays,
controls and navigation for Orion.

To highlight Arizona’s contribution to the Orion program April 11,

Astronaut Mark Kelly will join Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Honeywell
President & Chief Executive Officer Rob Gillette, Phoenix Economic
Development Council leadership and members of the Orion program team
for a short recognition ceremony and Orion program media briefing.

To recognize the Honeywell workforce and visit facilities working on

spacecraft systems, Astronaut Scott Altman and Orion Project Manager
Skip Hatfield will participate in a NASA Spaceflight Awareness
ceremony and tour at Honeywell facilities April 13. The Spaceflight
Awareness program is dedicated to ensuring that each and every
employee involved in human space flight is aware of the importance of
their role in promoting astronaut safety and mission success in the
critical, challenging task of flying humans in such a hostile
environment.

The Orion crew exploration vehicle is scheduled to launch humans to

the International Space Station following retirement of NASA’s space
shuttle in 2010 and return humans to the moon by 2020.
