Reinitialize and Format CNC
Purpose:
This document will be used as a guideline to reinitialize and format the NC in the event of
system failure or corruption of data located in the SRAM

Overview:
Clearing of the RAM memory should only be done when the data stored in the RAM
memory becomes contaminated. Contamination is not a common occurrence, but sometimes it might
happen maybe due to file transfers of corrupt data via a communications link, or even if the battery drops
to an unsafe level. But if it does happen for whatever reason, caution should be taken to be sure all
parameters, tooling data, programs, and etc, are restored to there original settings. The EEPROM
(Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) located on the QX141, QX141-1, or QX611 card
stores viable information about the NC, and is transferred to RAM at power on. After the data is cleared in
the RAM (Random Access Memory), the EEPROM data will then load itself back into the RAM area.
Previous to clearing the RAM, all data of importance should be backed up to Floppy Disk or PC. i.e. If the
RAM is already contaiminated, it is to late to backup the data. So it is best to periodically save your
important data. After completing the RAM clear, and data is restored, it is always recommended to verify
parameters with the hard copy that was supplied by the OEM at the time the machine was installed.

Tools Needed:
No special tools are required

Instructions:
I. Clearing the SRAM
A. Step 1
1. Locate the set of dip switches, (see diagram A), on the QX141, QX141-1, or QX611
main cpu card.
2. Flip dip switches 1 and 3 over to the right.
3. Power on the NC and wait for the 2 green led's on this main cpu card to turn ON.
4. After a few seconds the led's will turn OFF then back ON.
5. Re-initialization is complete.
6. Power off and set switches 1 and 3 back over to the left.

Note: If the green light fails to come on some other problem has occurred. Possibly
the system software has been corrupted or there may be hardware damage.

NOTE: Leaving dip switch number 3 ON will prevent parameters from being loaded
back into SRAM from EEPROM.

II. Formatting
A. Step 1
1. Access the machine parameters.
a. Press the hard key button labeled, (Alarm/Diag).
b. Press the soft key button labeled, (PLC/IF).
c. Key in under "Device", 1001. Then cursor right two times and key in the letter
"M" under Mode.
d. Press the [Input] key, and the (1001) ( ) (M), will disappear.
e. Press the hard key button labeled, [Tool/Param].
B. Step 2
1. Setting of the Fix_P parameter.
a. Press the soft menu key button labeled, [Base].
b. You will now be looking for a parameter labeled, [Fix_P]. (Depending on the NC
type and screen size this parameter is located somewhere in the base section).
c. Once located, set this parameter to a value of 1.
C. Step 3
1. Formatting
a. Press the hard key button labeled, [Data I/O].
b. Press the soft key button labeled, [Erase].
c. Move the cursor towards the right and type the word, [FORMAT],
d. Press Input. It should now display, [Format Complete].
e. Press the soft key button labeled, [Input].
f. Type the number 4 in the field labeled, # ( ) and press [Input}.(This will load in
all fixed cycles back into sram).
g. Cycle power to the machine.
h. Load in all programs, parameters, tool data, etc...

III. EEPROM Writing

D. Step 4
a. Press the hard key button labeled, [Alarm/Diag].
b. Press the soft key button labeled, [PLC/IF].
c. Key in under "device", 1001. Then cursor right two times and key in the letter "M"
under Mode.
d. Press the [Input] key, and the (1001) ( ) (M), will disappear.
e. Press the hard key button labeled, [Tool/Param].
f. Again, you will now be looking for a parameter labeled, E2rom. Depending on
the NC type and screen size this parameter is located somewhere in the base
section.
g. Once located, this parameter should already be set to all zeros.
h. Enter a value of 0 anyway
i. Press the [Input] key. (This will write parameters from sram to eeprom).
