MPLAB IDE
Parallel Port Access Driver
First Time Installation
For Windows XP
STEP 1
Open the
Control Panel
using either
method A or
B.
A. Double-
click on the
"My
Computer"
icon on your
desktop. This
will open a
folder in
which you will
find the
"Control
Panel" icon.
Double-click
on the
"Control
Panel" icon.
B. Click
"Start" on the
system menu
at the bottom
of the screen.
Then select
"Settings",
followed by
"Control
Panel".
Double-click
on the "Add
Hardware"
icon found
inside the
Control Panel.
STEP 2
The first
dialog of the
"Add
Hardware"
wizard will
open. Click
"Next".
STEP 3
In the "Is the
hardware
connected?"
dialog, select
"Yes,..." Click
"Next".
STEP 4
In the "The
following
hardware..."
dialog, scroll
down in the
"Installed
Hardware" list
to find "Add a
new
hardware
device". Click
on this item
to select it.
Click "Next".
STEP 5
In the "The
wizard can
help..."dialog,
select "Install
the hardware
that I
manually
select from a
list
(Advanced)".
Click "Next".
STEP 6
You will now
be ask to
select the
type of
hardware you
want to
install. In the
"Common
Hardware
Types" list,
select "Show
All Devices"
by clicking on
it. Click
"Next".
STEP 7
You will then
be asked to
specify where
the needed
device driver
files are to be
found. Click
"Have Disk".
STEP 8
In the "Install
from Disk"
dialog, use
the Browse
button to help
you select the
directory
where the
GPPIOW2K.
SYS and
GPPIOW2K.
INF files are
located, i.e.,
C:\Program
Files\MPLAB
IDE\DriversXP
\Parallel.
Once the
directory is
selected, it
will appear in
the edit box
labeled "Copy
manufacturer's
files from:".
Click "OK".
STEP 9
You should
now see the
following
dialog box
with the
device
"General
Purpose
Parallel Port
Access
Driver". If this
is not
highlighted,
click on it
once to
highlight it
and then click
"Next".
STEP 10
The wizard is
ready to
install your
hardware, as
stated in this
dialog. Click
"Next".
STEP 11
You will
receive a
warning
message that
the software
has not been
verified by
Windows
Logo testing.
Click
"Continue
Anyway".
STEP 12
The wizard
has finished
installing your
hardware, as
stated in this
dialog. Click
"Finish" to
close the
wizard.
