In this Database each record is composed by one file with instructions, and 9 files with
Displacement (D) Velocity (V) and Acceleration (A) of two horizontal components (AT1,
AT2) and one vertical component (up). In a table below a set of 3 signals of the following
Record Sequential Numbers (RSN) is assigned to your group. In each of them just one of
the horizontal components of acceleration. (example: Group X will use
RSN138_xxxx00.AT2, RSN1177_xxxx90.AT2 and RSN1155_xxxx00.AT2)
Characterize your signals in a table with following information
2. Represent the time histories of the selected signals. Calculate the corresponding
velocities and displacements and compare with those signals given in the database.
3. Represent the Fourier spectra and Power spectra for each of the signals (Acc, Vel,
Displ).
4. Represent the Elastic Response Spectra for each of the signals and the average spectrum
5. Represent the inelastic response spectra for each of the signals using three different
values of the ductility factor (=2, 4 and 8) (Seismosignal)
6. Obtain the elastic response spectra at a minimum of 10 representative eigenperiods for
one of the signals at your choice. The results should be obtained by calculating the
response of suitable SDOF oscillators (e.g. using SeismoStruct) and afterwards be
compared with the results obtained in item 3.
7. Represent and compare the elastic and design response spectra (q=4) according to
Eurocode 8 and the horizontal peak ground acceleration (PGA) and the soil type defined
for each group. The spectra should be obtained for horizontal and vertical accelerations.
8. Obtain the set of seismograms corrected to be compatible with the EC8 design Response
Spectrum using the signals defined in item A.1 (SeismoMatch).

B Incremental time-history analysis of frame using the set of three corrected accelerograms.
1. Choose one of the moment resisting frames (MRFs) from the table according to your
group number
2. Make incremental time-history dynamic analyses (IDAs) of the MRF using the set of
corrected accelerograms compatible with the EC8 (obtained in item A.8). Your FE
models should allow for non-linear response of the elements. Each record should be
applied in increments of 0.25 PGA from 0.25 PGA to 4.0 PGA. IDA curves for
interstorey drift ratio vs. ground motion intensity level and vs. frame height should be
presented. a short report (about 1 page) on the results.
Example of plots:
MRF definition:
The storey height for all frames is considered as 4.5m for the first (ground) storey and 3.5m for
all upper storeys. No basements are considered and the bases of ground storey columns are
assumed to be fully fixed. A conceptual schematic with the typical building plan and the
positioning of the lateral load resisting system is presented in Fig. 1 (for the case of a 3-bay
plan layout). The lateral force resisting system is placed at the perimeter of the plan of the
buildings. The interior frames are assumed to be gravity frames and their lateral load resisting
capacity is neglected. Two-dimensional frame models are used for the design, with appropriate
selection of the tributary areas for gravity and seismic loads. No torsional effects are considered.
The material for all frame elements is S355 steel.
