1. A random sample of 10 boys had the following I.Q.s :

Do these data support the assumption of a population mean I.Q. of 100 (at 5%
level of significance)?

2. A fertilizer mixing machine is set to give 12 kg. of nitrate for every quintal
bag of fertilizer. 10 hundred kg. bags are examined. The percentage of nitrate
is given below: 11, 14, 13, 12, 13, 12, 13, 14, 11, and 12.

Is there is a reason to believe that the machine is defective?

The value of t for 9 degree of freedom is 2.262.

3. A machine is to turn out engine parts with axel diameters of 0.700 inch. The
hypothesis H0 : =0.700 is to be tested against the alternative H1: = 0.700 at
5% level of significance. A random sample of 10 parts shows = 0.7120
inch and s=0.040 inch. What does this indicate?

4. A normal population has mean 20 and S.D. 2. A sample of 6 items from the
population has a mean 18.2. Can the sample be reasonably regarded as a
random sample using the 5% level of significance?

5. Nine patients to whom a certain drink was administrated registered the


following increments in blood pressure :

Examine whether the data indicate that the drink was responsible for these
increments.

6. The following table gives the lengths of 12 samples Egyptian cotton taken
from a large consignment .

Test if the mean length of the consignment be taken as 46.


7. A group of boys and girls were given an inteligence test. The mean scores ,
