INTRODUCTION

Single phase wiring in a house is an example of simple electrical wiring. In this wiring three cable
involve are called life, neutral and earth wire. In electrical engineering, single-phase electric power
is the distribution of alternating current electric power using a system in which all the voltages of
the supply vary in unison.

Single-phase distribution is used when loads are mostly lighting and heating, with few large
electric motors. In a single phase system, there is a neutral wire and one power wire with current
flowing between them.

Diversity factor is total a demand at any particular time divided by total load installed. This means
that the size of devices and cable installed are not necessarily follow the total load installed.
Diversity factor is incorporated to the design as it is one of the method used in order to reduce
wastage.

OBJECTIVE

To determine the maximum current demand and select the suitable size of devices and cable for
their design.
PROCEDURE

1. House plan is constructed based on clients demand. The client load requirements are
determined.

Electrical appliances Quantity

Lighting 8
Fan 4
13 A switch socket outlet (13A SSO) 7
Air-cond 2 X 1.0h.p
Water heater 2 X 1.5kW

2. House layout diagram for electrical single phase and single line schematic diagram is drew.
3. Actual diagram of wiring of every electrical circuits of every electrical appliance are drew.
4. The demand power of house with and without diversity factor are calculated.

DISCUSSION

The single phase electrical design is of a house with a single phase supply of 240V. This
specific house is equipped with 8 lamps, 4 ceiling fans, 7 switch socket outlet (13A SSO), two
air-conditioners of 1.0 h.p and two water heaters of 1.5 k.W. Based on the calculation, the
maximum current demand without diversity factor is 100.88A, thus the suggested cable size
needed is 25mm2. Meanwhile, the maximum current demand calculated with the diversity
factor is 61.75A so, the suggested cable size is 16mm2. This proves that diversity factor has
the effect of lowering the maximum current demand. It is obtained by using electrical energy
at night load or light load periods.
CONCLUSION

The total current used for this house, calculated with diversity factor is 61.75A and the suitable
cable size is 16mm2.
