1. What is the topic of your lesson?

The topic of our lesson is culture, specifically the culture of names and the
culture of the classroom environment. We will discuss how there are
many different names, and that embracing all of these and the beauty of
each one is an important part of culture.

2. Why are you teaching this lesson? What is your rationale for teaching it?
We are teaching this lesson in order to make children aware of importance
of differences, and teach them how to be accepting of those differences.
In addition, we want to make children aware of their classroom culture,
and also things that they could make better involving their classroom
culture.

3. What is your Teaching Behavior Focus? Why did you choose this?
Our Teaching Behavior Focus is Student engagement through discussion
is fostered. We choose this as the Teaching Behavior Focus because it
will allow teachers to meet all students needs because will let them have
discussion with a partner, the whole class, and the teacher. Having
discussions allows students to become engaged in what they are learning
and talking about in class.

4. Why did you design your instruction in this lesson the way that you did? Why did
you choose this way of teaching the lesson (e.g., Was the idea from a methods
course? From your mentor teacher? Another source?)
We designed our instruction in this lesson the way we did because we feel
that this structure will benefit the children most. This specific structure will
keep the children engaged because we will keep them busy throughout,
and most of it is them participating in activities, not just being lectured.
We took some of our ideas and activities from a methods course, and
somewhat changed the structure of them.

5. As you are thinking through this lesson, what do you believe will be the most
challenging part of this lesson for you when you teach it? Why?
We believe the most challenging part of this lesson when we teach it will
be keeping the students on task while decorating the puzzle pieces about
themselves (we will connect them all together to show the culture of the
classroom community). This may be challenging because they tend to get
distracted sometimes.

6. How will you know if your learning outcomes for the students are met
successfully?
We will know if our learning outcomes for the students are met
successfully through a discussion at the end of the lesson and the
activities.

7. How will your classroom management support the learning outcomes?

Our classroom management will support the learning outcomes because
we will use the classroom management strategy of Gimme 5 to get the
students attention as needed, and we will attempt to keep the students on
task by having several different activities and making sure they are staying
focused by walking around the room while they are doing individual
activities.

8. List 1-3 areas which you would like for your observer to pay particular attention.
Why do you want your observer to focus on these areas?
An area we would like for our observer to pay particular attention to is the
puzzle piece decorating activity. We would like our observer to focus on
this area of the lesson because we want him to help us make sure the
students are staying staying focused and on task while decorating their
puzzle pieces.
