Business help
you may not have known about
BY ANNIE SHETLER
More small business owners in Wexford and Missaukee counties
have reached out for the assistance over the past several months.
And while the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development
Center (SBTDC) has been busy working with the businesses, not
everyone has heard of the program, the services available or how to
learn to more.
The following are a few tips that should help explain the SBTDC
more:
Every state has a network of Small Business Development Centers
or networks that offer assistance to business owners. The program is
funded nationally by the Small Business Administration along with
other contributions from state and local levels.
In Michigan the SBTDC operates with a network of consultants
and specialists. As a business consultant, I cover both Wexford and
Missaukee counties, working through a partnership with the Cadillac
Area Chamber of Commerce providing business counseling to both
existing business and new business start-ups at no cost to the client.
The SBTDC specializes in the following three major areas:
One-on-one Business Consulting: This includes working with
someone who is thinking of starting a new business or an existing
business owner facing challenges with marketing, finance and strate-
gic planning. SBTDC also has available expertise in the areas of manu-
facturing, technology, retail and agriculture.
Entrepreneurial Training: We have a variety of curricula including
