PROFESSIONAL TEACHERS OF COLOR AND ALLIES SUMMIT AT CU BOULDER


DEVELOPMENT 2017
Educators from the greater metro area convened to discuss issues that are facing diverse
populations in our public-school districts including DPS, Boulder and St. Vrain. The goal of the
summit is to not only unpack daily situations in classrooms that promote oppression but also how
educators can elicit changes to promote equity,

ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION (AVID) TRAINING/TUTORING


2017
AVID training was conducted in a hands-on environment in which participants experienced the
tutorial process. Trainees learned about what AVID is, how it was developed and the effects the
program had in participating PSD schools. This training was utilized at Fort Collins High School
as a tutorial facilitator. This position requires small group management and question scaffolding.

WESTERN REGIONAL NOYCE CONFERENCE


FEBRUARY 2017
A conference held in Fresno, California was conducted with the goal of uniting Noyce scholars
from the west region of the US to elevate STEM education. Relevant breakout sessions attended
include: Engagement in STEM, Deconstructing NGSS standards, Transforming STEM to
STEAM, and Rubric Development and Application.

WORK ACADEMIC COACH, LEADING LEARNERS LLC


EXPERIENCE 2014 - CURRENT
Worked with largely high school age children in topics ranging from Math, Science, Spanish, and
ACT/SAT preparation. Responsibilities included scaffolded questioning, quick and creative
thinking, creating effective practice tests and quizzes, and writing progress reports which
identified areas of strength and growth. Completed formal ACT tutoring training.

LEARNING ASSISTANT, CSU PHYSICS DEPERTMENT


2016 - CURRENT
As part of a redesign of the general physics course at CSU, a team of learning assistants was
hired to assist students in PH 121 and PH 122 classes with problem solving and concept
understanding. Additional responsibilities included help with homework during homework
sessions and weekly meetings to discuss possible student misconceptions and how to address
those through the week.

TEACHING FELLOW, GENERATION TEACH


SUMMER 2017
Fellows completed 2 weeks of social justice education training which focused on teaching
diverse classrooms and cultural responsiveness. In the following 5 weeks, the training was
applied to teaching 7th grade math classes. Mentor teachers worked closely with fellows to aid in
development by providing feedback to fellows daily. Professional learning communities of other
fellows were created and aimed to help fellows grow and promote the enhancement of one
another as teachers.
VOLUNTEERING COLLEGE OF NATURAL SCIENCE EDUCATION OUTREACH CENTER
2014 CURRENT
The CNEOC aims to make science accessible and relevant for students in the CSU community.
Some activities include: Little Shop of Physics and STEM Fridays. Volunteering requires the
ability to explain scientific phenomena in ways that students aged 8-18 enjoy and understand.

COLORADO SCIENCE OLYMPIAD


2014 CURRENT
Served as an event supervisor and test writer for northern regional and state competitions.
Essential skills for this volunteer role included consistent grading, and the creation of suitable but
challenging grade level appropriate assessments for students competing.

FOSSIL RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD


2013 - 2016
Responsible for preparing small groups of high school students for regional and state Science
Olympiad competitions. A suite of 3 body systems would be taught each year and in all 3
seasons spent coaching the team, the students won 1st place wins at both regional and state
competitions.

CAMINOS Y LA COMMUNIDAD
2015 2016
A joint project between CSU and Fort Collin High School, this program aimed to provide
mentorship to students involved in the Spanish Biliteracy program. As a fellow, I worked in 9th
grade classes and had taught lessons to these about cultural community wealth and resiliency in
resistance to racism.

EXTRA- CSU BANDS


CURRICULAR 2013 - CURRENT
ACTIVITIES Involvement with various CSU band ensembles includes, Marching Band, Presidential Pep Band,
Basketball Band and Concert Band. Served as section leader for two years in Marching Band.
Managed several responsibilities as a section leader such as teaching new members marching
techniques and band traditions, running sectionals, conflict resolution and timely communication.

STEM EDUCATORS CLUB


2014 CURRENT
This club is a professional learning community of prospective STEM educators. Some
opportunities of the club have included learning about textbook adoption processes, PRAXIS
preparation, STEM educator panels with district teachers and testing new STEM Friday kits.

NATIONAL SOCIETY OF COLLEGIATE SCHOLARS


2014 CURRENT
Involvement in this club allows for collaboration and networking with fellow highly
academically motivated peers across several disciplines. Invitation to NSCS is
limited to students in the top 20% of their class their freshman or sophomore year.

AWARDS ROBERT NOYCE SCHOLARSHIP


2016
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Noyce Scholarship program aims to recruit
highly qualified future STEM educators to receive scholarship and professional development
opportunities to prepare them to serve in high needs school districts.
