For this position in the USD 373, the special education teacher has responsibilities to

communicate and collaborate with all school personal, such as principals, counselors, general

education teachers, therapists of special services, nurses, paraprofessionals, and bus drivers. In

addition, the special education teacher needs to communicate and collaborate with students

family members who are not only taking care of them everyday but also care about their lives,

such as siblings, grandparents, and relatives.

In my opinion, there are three important tasks, roles, and responsibilities that special

education teachers are expected to complete within communication and collaboration. First,

special education teachers are responsible for preparing progress reports and annual evaluations

with the participation of the general education teacher, therapists of special services, and parents.

Second, special education teachers are responsible for addressing and implementing adaptations,

accommodations, and modifications that are based on the general education teachers lesson.

Third, special education teachers are responsible for solving specific learning problems, skill

deficiencies, or social adjustment difficulties with the students educational team.

I like to use technologies when I communicate and collaborate with others. For

example, I can make adjustments on Google Doc in order to share my notes about the lesson plan

with the general education teacher. I also like to use communion box effectively. For example, if

paraprofessional, parents, other personals have any questions, they can put in the communication

box, and I will review them and get back to that particular person. In contrast, my weakness is

lack of communication with parents before an annual evaluation comes up. However, I can set

up an informal meeting with the parents before the actual IEP meeting, and ask for their opinions

about their child next years educational goals. Moreover, another weakness is I use a lot verbal

feedback. However, formal feedback can also be useful and effective in the communication.
