Guest Speakers:

The Sports Business Club continued

strong in the month of November.
Novembers meeting schedule was
highlighted by the Pittsburgh Steelers
meeting. Attendees were welcome by
Pittsburgh Steelers marketing manager,
John Simpson. During the meeting, club
members discussed how to get jobs with
major sports teams and brainstormed
solutions to issues such as stadium
attendance. The meeting wrapped up with
pictures with the Steelers super bowl ring
and information on next years internship
with the Steelers.

This month also included our sports debate

night! Members freely contemplated various
different solutions and opinions on current
sports topics. Some of these topics included
whether college athletes should be paid or
not, and if super teams are good or not for
the NBA among others! It was a huge success
and will be something we look forward to
doing again in the future!

Come back for our final meeting of the

semester! We will be handing out prizes to
the top performers in our trivia night!

SBC Around Campus:
IM Sports Updates:
Thank you all for your participation in our
IM sports teams this semester! While our
football team was unable to live out the
dream of winning the championship in
Beaver Stadium, it was a fun year in one of
the more competitive IM sports leagues
there is. Our club was able to pick up a
few wins through the ups and downs. We
also ventured into some new sports as a
club, seeing our club participate in corn
hole and IM bocce. Please stay on the
lookout for next semester if you are
interested in joining IM basketball or
indoor volleyball. If you are interested in
starting a new team within the club dont
be hesitant to bring it up at one of our
meetings as we are always looking for
different ways to get involved on campus.

$1. Other ways to get your

of December at Trivia Night!

THON Committee Spotlight:

This month we are introducing the first
Committee of the Month! Penn State
THON is a 46 hour, no sitting, no
sleeping dance marathon that
contributes million dollars each year to
The Four Diamonds Fund. Our THON
committee is very successful at
promoting this charity and have
already raised almost $6,000 this
semester! Members have been able to
participate through Penny Wars,
THONvelopes, and other special events
that all contribute to research and
funding for childhood cancer research.

The committee is run by Kaitlyn and

Ryan. Members include:

Penn State Football
Internships:
Devin Naylon: Devin is a Marketing and
Recruiting Operations intern for Penn State
Football. He works in their offices to help
with marketing efforts, and also works for
Wide Receivers coach Josh Gattis, helping
him with recruiting. The recruiting part of
the internship includes helping with pre-
game recruiting procedures. Through this
experience, Devin has gained skills such as
time management, made great connections,
and learned what its like to work on the
team side of sports.
Justin Lucker: Justin is a Recruiting
Operations intern for Penn State Football. It
is his responsibility to assist with all efforts
in establishing the future of Penn State
football. Whether it is on game-days during
the season or with official visits during the
spring, he collaborates with the entire
coaching staff and operations staff to
facilitate a streamlined recruiting effort for
prospects and their families. Throughout
the year, his weekdays are spent in the
Lasch Football Building where he is
watching film and completing various
projects for the player personnel
department and recruiting coordinators.
Immersing himself in this environment for
the past three years has developed his
football evaluation skillset as well as his
communication method within a demanding
atmosphere.

Penn State Sports
Update:
Basketball
Penn State basketball entered this season with
the highest expectations in recent memory.
With all five starters returning, there was talk
of earning an at-large NCAA Tournament bid
and so far, the Nittany Lions have not
disappointed. The team is currently 6-1 with its
only loss coming by single digits in a hard-
fought battle against now #9 Texas A&M. The
team is led by senior guard Shep Garner and
standout sophomore point guard Tony Carr.
With Big Ten play starting up, lets hope the
Nittany Lions can keep playing at a high level
and put together their best season in the past
decade.
Football
As you can see Maryland really had no interest
in showing up this past week with a 66-3 road
route this past weekend. The Nitanny Lions are
3-0 following their two game slide, yet
unfortunately the two conference losses will
keep us out of the College Football Playoff
hunt and the Big Ten Championship. While the
10-2 finish may be somewhat disappointing to
some, the team will likely appear in a New
Years Six bowl for the second consecutive
year. That will be just the third time in
program history that the football team can
accomplish this feat. Early predictions show
James Franklins 9th ranked Nitanny Lions
playing either Alabama or Miami in a bowl
game. Additionally Safety Marcus Allen was
named first team all Big Ten and Saquon
Barkley was named first team as a returner.
We are still awaiting the offensive all-league
selections.
