Program Note

Most people know that the gong can make quite a racket. When played softly the gong produces a lovely, shimmering sound. I decided to start
and end this piece with that sound. In the middle, the piece builds to a climax that culminates with several large gong strokes, before returning
to the softer sounds of the opening. Shimmering Harmonics was premiered at Lake Michigan College on February 20th, 2011.
