Rationale for instructional design:

I chose this type of lesson to implement technology because my students are already very
familiar with the flow of the lesson. We start Structured Language early in the school year and
use the same lesson structure each week as we introduce new words. My students are very
young and often cannot follow more than a two or three-step direction sequence. I decided
this was an important factor for adding something new. Since my students are familiar with
how to create their sentence and illustrate the picture, my directions could focus more on the
technology piece for new content. My students love to use technology, so this was the perfect
way to add some excitement to a very structured and repetitive lesson design. I chose Wixie
because the platform is easy to explain and use. This app can easily be used for a variety of
purposes across our curriculum.

Summary of Significance:

Teaching young children to use technology for instructional purposes must be intentional. This
work sample demonstrates my ability to explain the objective and purpose of a tool in simple
language. You must be very specific with vocabulary and show step by step examples to ensure
understanding. After the lesson, it was clear that the objectives were reached because each
child created their own digital page and followed directions to produce similar, yet creative
designs.
