 Welcome to The Woodoaks Theatre Company!

My name is Sophie Hall and I am the Performing Arts Coordinator at The Woodoaks Association.

Here at Woodoaks, we dont just do Theatre for the young!

We are a theatre company for the young, the old and everyone in between, so whatever your age come and join
in, there is something for everyone!!

We created this programme for children and young people who have an interest in the performing arts. Unlike
other Theatre companies we provide teaching with a difference. We believe in combining art and theatre together
to make stunning performance and providing an all round more effective learning and enjoyment programme for
the pupils.
We welcome new pupils at any time of the year!
We love working with pupils who are disabled, under-confident, shy or simply drama kings or queens. We can
promise a safe, enjoyable and educational experience for every single member of our company.
We want students to engage in the exploration of theatre, performance, art, music and dance.

We offer specialist workshops for our pupils, to expand their knowledge and build upon their interests.
A few of these workshops are as follows:
Puppetry, West End Theatre, Contemporary Dance, Voice and movement, theatre and technology, Hair and Make-
up for Film and TV, Hair and Make-up for Performance and Theatre Production.
Woodoaks Theatre Company
4 years old- 18 years old
We have courses that run right through the year for these age groups. The main Theatre group is run during term
time, taking place out of schooling hours. During holidays and half terms we run Holiday Courses, so there is
always something creative for your child to be apart of.
Classes are always grouped by age (Though from ages 7 upwards within the big shows we mix all ages in final
rehearsals)

We are no ordinary After-School or Theatre club, we combine all the elements that make a childs imagination so
spectacular and bring it to each and every class. We use nature and history, as stimuli for productions not simply
scripts. We use paint and materials for exploring not just role-play. We use games and modern dance to engage
and teach children, without them even realizing they are learning. We use all of our workshop leaders expertise,
to bring a 21st century splash of colour across The Woodoaks Theatre Company. We combine acting, singing and
dancing with a lot more Pizazz! Creating a more overall developed knowledge and skills within drama and the arts.

We run our classes weekdays, out of school hours- for 1 hour 30 Minutes, 2 hours (Depending on age group)
Ages 4-7 will run on Saturday Mornings

We run one main show a year, allowing every child to have the time and dedication spent on them developing
their skills and techniques, so each and every child gets to be the star of the show. We dont just allow children to
be involved with the acting parts of a production; we teach children to develop skills in other areas of theatre and
production, this is so they learn to take the initiative and lead others. They can also feel they can all contribute to
making their own production. We also offer specialist course so that children can develop their interests further
and discover passions in various elements of the arts.
Jazz Hands (4-6)
We nurture the younger children and slowly introduce them into various dramatic elements, learning through
sensory mediums to help them understand and develop a love for theatre, which will progress them through the
stages of The Woodoaks Theatre Company.

The Main Stage (7-10)

We incorporate curriculum-based workshops to help children develop skills, which will be transferable into
schooling hours. We bring performance into play more quickly within this age group, developing singing, acting
and dancing with use of stimuli. We aim to build confidence, encourage developing skills, create unbelievable
memories, and to allow for a basic understanding of modern drama.

The Spotlight (11-14)

Development, progression and fun are key within The Spotlight. Again we incorporate curriculum- based
workshops to help children develop skills, which will be transferable into schooling hours. We use technical skills
and methods within our classes to help them become stronger and confident actors and practitioners. We
introduce more performance-based work combined with art influences to help them develop skills in which they
are most interested.

Cabarets (15-18)
Allowing all students to have confidence, skills, and knowledge with drama and still have bucket loads of fun. We
incorporate singing, acting and dancing with various methods of stretching imaginations to see outside the box
with performance. Creativity and expression is key within this part of our Theatre Company. A student becomes a
performer and will gain all skills, knowledge and support to go into life with their creative and well-rounded head
held high!
Our Lovely Employees
All classes are all run by professionals, who have been CRB checked. Most of our workshop leaders and fresh out
of their profession, so we can ensure you that your child is getting the newest and most up to date skills out there.
The Woodoaks Association is about involving the entire community and engaging all levels of ability. Our Theatre
Company promotes just that. Everyone is welcome, from any background, whatever the ability. We nurture the
shy to bring out the sparkle and encourage the confident to carry on shining. The Woodoaks Theatre Company
workshop leaders will help lead your child into a happy, healthy and creative life.

We keep our curriculum covering a wide range of bases to enrich students minds into the entire experience of
Theatre. Allowing the child to find their passions, in a safe and professional environment, to learn and grow as
performers, technicians, make-up artists, puppetries, stage designers or simply whatever they stumble into along
the way.

Every single on of our classes will improve skills and techniques. Your child will be constantly learning and
developing whilst having an amazing experience. Enjoyment and Fun is a key part of every one of our classes, we
set the tasks and show them in the right direction, the children will create the fun themselves, with their new
friends and the experiences they are creating. Combine the two and your child will have brilliant life-long
memories.
