Many subjects of matter are brought up within this argument, one being the way Rihanna
is posing for the cover. Her pose is very provocative being that she is in the nude, she is
using her body as a stage for the exploration of modes of violence structured into
heterosexual desire practices. This article was released after the alleged abuse to her by
former boyfriend Chris Brown. The knowledge of her assault by boyfriend Chris Brown
heightens the risks involved in her pursuit of forms of attachment and pleasure; it also
registers with heteronormative male fantasies of what can be done to her body under the
rubric of consent. This offers context for analyzing the scope of domestic violence
among celebrities.

The Salvation Army used a famous picture that had surfaced the web not too long ago
and had become an imagery sensation to convey a witty connection with domestic
violence. They repurposed the image by having a model wearing a dress with visible
bruises on her body, face and legs and had the caption of Why is it so hard to see black
and blue. This question was followed by a statement which stated one in six women are
victims of abuse, this is no illusion. This brings sight on to how common domestic
violence is among women. Although this imposes a gender bias, which happens to be a
common misconception by the public, this public service announcement does a
tremendous job using imagery to bring light on such social issue.

Review, 109(5), 1048-1065. doi:10.2307/1342260
Out of Bounds: Professional Sports Leagues and Domestic Violence brings light to the
social issue that has been going on for years. Domestic Abuse by professional athletes is
a very common act that has generated increased public attention, many choose to
overlook this due to the athletes status. This context used the example of a professional
football player, Warren Moon. He was the quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings, seven
time Pro Bowl quarterback who also had an outstanding reputation for his charitable
works, and was accused of battery in the household to his wife Felicia Moon. Many were
jarred to find out such information about Warren but this validates many arguments in
which state domestic violence sees no gender, age or religion and is even performed by
people of respectable reputations.

This Public Service Announcement is very deep as it shows the underlying truth of
domestic violence and what it starts off with and what it can evolve into. It encases
domestic violence victims at their most vulnerable state and shows how the abuser can be
manipulative and controlling within the household. This exposes what happens behind
closed doors, domestic violence isnt always noticeable to family, friends or close ones
and sadly many victims are too scared to speak out about their abuse. This film shows
how hideous and terrifying domestic violence can be, these individuals finally had the
courage to reach out, most being near death when doing so. Insight is provided how
complex emotions involved when someone you love becomes violent.

The National Football League a well known organization around the world, it has many
players in which a vast majority of the public idolize. With domestic violence being a
social issue they claim to not tolerate, their actions say otherwise. These allegations are
demonstrated with rookie running back phenomenon, Ezekiel Elliot who currently has
domestic abuse allegations filled on him. The league mandates a six-game suspension for
any participants in battery but they have flouted their own policy so many times it poses
as meaningless. Elliot has had these charges for over a year now and still has yet to
receive a suspension. Using the information provided in this article one is able to draw
connections to the unjust/unfair way public figures such as professional football players
are treated when performing such acts in my semester research topic.

Language Review,107(2), 438-500. doi:10.5699/modelangrevi.107.2.0438
The article The Representation of Domestic Violence in Spanish Cinema gives insight
on the historical relationship between domestic violence in Spanish cinema. Using the
information provided in the article one is able to draw connections to the social issue of
domestic violence and how it is portrayed by other cultures. There are many similarities
that are presented in this article in relevance to others, one being gender bias restraint.
The common problem associated with a gender bias restraint is that the females are
always playing the role of victims and the males as the perpetrator. This article also
exposes how domestic violence is portrayed in Spanish cinema, meaning that these are
public figures/people with status who are portraying such behavior is seen by a large
audience. Using case studies to validate the issue presented helps contextualize the
question between art and reality. (How screen representations and lived experiences have
impacted on each other in recent years.)
