I chose each of these locations because some of them are major cities in the

state of Wisconsin (and their airports). Milwaukee and Green Bay both reside near

water to the eastern side of the state, while Green Bay and Eau Claire are located

inland. Madeline Island happens to be an island, which is surrounded by water. Pattison

State Park is also located inland, but farther north than Eau Claire.

Part 2: Ecoregion Maps

McCabe 6

Climate data has influences on the ecoregions the locations are in because of

the amount of rainfall an area may receive over the course of a year and the types of

trees can determine the climate. In the Eastern Temperate Forest, the trees are oak,

birch, maple, etc. and can withstand cooler and warmer temperatures, which can be

found in Eau Claire, Green Bay, and Milwaukee. In the Northern Forests, the

temperatures are colder than the Eastern Forests, so one can usually find pine or

boreal trees in the areas where Madeline Island and Pattison State Park are located.

In both of these location, enough rain falls to grow forests. In the Great Plains

region, the climate may be warmer than other parts of the state and it is located

more inland and possibly does not receive as much rain as other locations because

there is no large source of water nearby.

Part 3: Soils Data Map

McCabe 8

The types of soils found in Wisconsin are alfisols, entisols, histosols, inceptisols,

mollisols, and spodosoils. Alfisols are usually located in areas where there are

deciduous forests, which can be found throughout the state. Entisols and inceptisols are

time based soils with minimal development. Histosols are wetland soils which can be

possible because of the amount of rain that falls in the state and the amount of water

that surrounds the state. Mollisols, grassland soils, are found in small amounts in the

state, but may indicate more farm/agricultural like areas. Finally, spodosols are

coniferous forest soils, which are found in areas with warmer summers and cooler

winters, which is a climate that can be found around the country, but most commonly in

the Eastern Temperature Forest ecoregion.

The trends for evapotranspiration and the streamflow for my locations in that

there is usually more water evaporated and transpired than there is precipitation during

the summer, but during the cooler and winter months, the precipitation tends to count

for more. The discharge amounts (Q) show that there is typically more evaporation and

outflow of streams (outputs) than there is precipitation (inputs), which means that the

discharge amounts are going to end up being in the negative numbers.
