This lesson plan template outlines a two-day science lesson for 4th grade students about whether planets can support life. Students will use iPads, computers, phones and apps to research the planets in our solar system and determine if they possess the necessary components to maintain life. They will complete a worksheet listing the planets and their findings. The teacher will assess students' accuracy and writing skills. Formative assessments during research will check understanding. The lesson activates prior knowledge about Earth and what allows life, then models the research task before students work independently and in pairs to complete their worksheets.

Guiding the Practice As a class we will together research Earth. I will explain that we know Earth can hold forms of life but students must discover how it is possible for us to live on Earth (air, gravity, ect.) Providing the Independent Practice For the first part (about 15 minutes) students must work independently then are able to partner up Transition Alright explorers finish up your final statement.
