Anticipatory Set:

Begin by asking students the information learned from the last class. Once review is complete
and retention ensured, a brief overview of the activities for today will be given.

Objective:

Students will be able to differentiate between Liberal and Conservative views of important
topics plaguing our government.
Students will be able to better understand the work it takes to run a campaign effectively and
efficiently in the ICivics Game: Win the White House.

Materials:

Students will need their school provided laptops in order to play.


Students will also need a writing utensil of some kind to take notes when discussing key topics.

Instructional Procedures:

Students will watch an episode of CNN Students News after roll is taken. (15 min)
Students will be given a handout outlining differing viewpoints of key topics being discussed in
government. (2 min)
Teacher will lead students through the packet and go over both points of view of the topics
listed. In doing this, students will be able to better understand what is being said. (20 min)
Students will log into the ICivics website and play the game Win the White House. (40-50 min)
After the game is completed students will print out their certificate and a class wide question
and answer session will follow to gauge students learning and knowledge accumulation.

Evaluation:

Evaluation will be informal question and answer session at the beginnings and end of the class.
