Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title:

Counting can be fun!

Objectives:

-Students will be able to count up to 120

-Students will be able to count by fives and tens up to 100
-Students will be able to read and write number in concrete, standard, equation, and expanded
form
-Students will be able to write numbers out in words from one to nineteen, and multiple of tens
through ninety.
State Standards:

1.NSBT.1 extend the number sequence to:

A. Count forward by ones to 120 starting at any number;

B. Count by fives and tens to 100, starting at any number;

C. Read, write and represent number to 100 using concrete models, standard form, and equations
in expanded form;

D. Read and wrote in word form numbers zero through nineteen, and multiples of ten through
ninety.

Context:

I am teaching this lesson to my students because it is important for them to get a foundation of
math numbers and problems because they will build on this for the rest of their education and
life. Previously they will know the numbers that we are working with, probably up to 50. After
this lesson, they will learn to add and subtract these numbers. Today, we they will learn how to
count these numbers by ones, fives, and tens. They will then use this knowledge of knowing the
number in the next lesson when they have to add and subtract them.

Materials: List all materials used (i.e. websites, apps, pencils, iPads, computers, worksheets,
diagrams, textbooks, etc.)

-A pencil

-A worksheet with practice on it

-Concrete blocks

-Ipads (that are provided in the classroom)

Procedures:

Introduction (15 minutes):

In the introduction, I will give a short lesson on what we wil be covering today and a
brief overview on how to do each thing. I will then explain the groups that we will be having
today. I will hand out the worksheets and have the ipads where they need to be so students can
get them out when they are at the station. I will tell every student where they need to go.

Teacher Directed (15 minutes):

In this teacher directed time, I will have a group of students working with me (about 6).
We will be sitting all together at a table so I can see what they are all doing. I will then show
them what the concrete blocks are and what they represent (Flat = 100, Rod = 10, Cube = 1). I
will give them all their own flats, rods, and cubes to use during our time together. I will give
them numbers and they will need to put together what they think the answer is and I will be
checking them. I will help any students that are confused and answer any questions at this time.

Collaborative (15 minutes):

-In the collaborative group, they will be reading through the chapter in the book together
on how to count by fives/tens and how to write out the numbers 1-19. They will then been
working on the two worksheets that I handed out at the beginning of class. They will all work
together to try and figure out the answers while they compare and contrast. They are to get
through both of the worksheets during this time. I will have them write any questions they have
on the back of the worksheet. These worksheets will have practice on writing out the numbers
and counting by fives/tens

Independent Digital (15 minutes):

-During the independent digital, I will have the students each on their own ipad and first
they will pull up a video on schooltube.com learning how to count by fives and tens. Then they
will pull up a math app that will help the work on counting by fives/tens and also putting
numbers in the correct orders. The app that they will be using is A Number Math App because
I feel as if it has a lot of problems and topics that we are talking about in the lesson.

Closure (10 minutes):

-We will then come together as a group and will open up the floor for any questions they
may have. I will have an exit ticket with a few problems on it that they will need to answer and
turn in before they can move on. We will also go over what homework needs to be done before
they come back tomorrow.

I used this multimedia because it is two videos that will teach them how to count by fives
and tens. It is in a form of a song so I believe it will help them learn quicker and a way
that will make it more fun. I know this is of high quality because I checked it out
beforehand so I knew it would be worthy of using.

(Multimedia 2= A Number Math App):

I used this app because it is an app for elementary student to use to learn how to
count. I think this is an effective way of learning because it makes it fun and interactive
for the students. It is important that they know how to use technology. I know this is of
high quality because I checked it out beforehand so I knew it would be worthy of using.
