Longfellow wrote a poem that we sing at Christmas.
I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men!
Do you know what Longfellows world was like when
he wrote those words? A terrible war was raging.
Brother was killing brother in our War Between the
States. Pain and suffering and poverty and chaos were
widespread. The third verse reflects this.
And in despair I bowed my head;
There is no peace on earth, I said;
For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men!
When you watch the news these days, it is easy to
feel as hopeless as Longfellow did. I long for a world
devoid of greed and avarice: A world absent of
violence, distrust and power hungry leaders. I want
to believe that family, marriage, God and country are
not finished. I want to see people helping one another
regardless of their skin, language, religion or age.
I know I am expecting way too much. As much as we
yearn for a world in which nations are at peace that
will not occur until Christ returns. Yet Gods gift of
peace need not wait on that.
With Gods help we can seek to make our local world
a better place of peace. It wont be absolute but it can
be better. Acts of kindness, prayer, sharing Gods love
and generosity help build a better community. Such
a future is also what Longfellow envisioned in the
fourth verse.
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men.
This is a lot to hope for. But I dont think I am alone.
I believe you have these same dreams and hopes.
Especially at Christmas. Let there be peace on earth
and let it begin in me.

Sunday Morning Teachers Needed for 2017-18
Hallway Assistant - one month commitment that involves
greeting families, helping our preschoolers & teachers.
Arriving at 7:30AM and finishing in time for LifeGroups.
Special Needs Ministry - This is a new ministry
opportunity that involves 1 on 1 discipleship and is
a team that rotates. Thanks Becky Leary for joining,
however we are still in need of 4 more team members
Please welcome Linda Truitt as our new ministry assistant.
Sunday Morning Teacher/Coordinator Meetings
Breakfast: 8 AM, Team Meeting: 8:30 AM, Room 313

Co-Ed Games (4-6 Graders) Saturdays at Eastern Hills

Practices are Sundays at 4 PM and Wednesdays at 5 PM.
Serve Day - (Gr. 1-6) - Tuesday, December 19; 7AM - 3PM
Begins at Krispy Kreme and ends at Eastdale Mall (next to
Journeys overlooking the Ice Rink). Free donuts, bring a sack
lunch, and free ice skating from 3:30-6PM. We will be
delivering Christmas gifts, serving our church, and sharing
hope with our homebound. Parents & families welcome!
STUDENT MINISTRY

WINTER RETREAT
January 12-15, 2018, the student ministry will travel to
Pigeon Forge, TN, for the Strength to Stand Conference. The
cost to attend is $150. The absolute deadline to register is
December 17.
CHRISTMAS LIFEGROUP BREAKFAST
Sunday, December 17, we will have a Christmas breakfast
upstairs before LifeGroups. Make sure youre in town and at
Eastmont that morning.
TACKY SWEATER CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our 2nd Annual Tacky Sweater Christmas Party is scheduled
for Monday, December 18th, 6:00 p.m. This event is open to
students, their parents, and youth workers.
PAINT FOR A PURPOSE
Saturday, January 20, the student ministry will host a
fundraiser event in the fellowship hall. More details coming
soon, but save the date for this great night of fun, friends,
and finger foods.
DISCIPLE NOW WEEKEND
The dates for DNow 2018 are February 16-18. Save the
date and spread the word for this life-changing weekend in
February.

Sunday Night Bible Study
Join us Sunday nights at 5:00 PM for Bible Study in the
college room.
Home Groups
No more meetings this year. Thursday night activities will
be revamped in 2018. More details to come.
Passion Conference
Join 20,000 other college students as we seek a great move
of God in our generation. January 1-3 in Philips Arena in
Atlanta. Cost=$125 for 1st timers; $175 for others. $50
Deposit is due ASAP to reserve your spot.

Recycling for Missions
We are collecting empty inkjet cartridges (no laser or toner
cartridges) and used cell phones (no accessories). Place
these items in the ministry baskets around the church. All
proceeds go toward Eastmont Mission Trips.

Forever Young
Calling on all Seniors! Come join us in the Forever Young
Choir. Were learning lots of fun new music and would love
to have a full choir loft every other Sunday when we sing for
the first service.
Student Choir
Student Choir meets every Sunday afternoon at 4 PM in the
choir suite. Students come and be a part of this awesome
opportunity to sing and go on mission trips to share the
good news of Christ with others.

Forest Park Ministry Center
December is Eastmonts month to collect items for the
Forest Park Ministry Center. The following are their
greatest needs: Cereal, Canned meats, Peanut Butter,
Canned Fruit, Canned Pasta, Rice, Baby Diapers,
Toothpaste, Toilet tissue, & Deodorant. Please place any
donations in the ministry baskets located around the
church.
Disability Ministry
Interpreter services are being offered for the 10:30 AM
service and Wednesday night prayer service.
