Introduction

This is a justification for action research that I made after reviewing literature reviews. It was in Ajman
Academy School between 24 of September and continues until 8 of November. I will focus in lower
classes and especially grade one because I will observe my monitor school teacher strategies toward
misbehaviour, and so extra chance to see what strategies went well and what went worse. A classroom
management strategy enables all to learn in the classroom. They are different types of misbehaving in
lower class such as not being on task, talking to others, hitting others, kicking others. However, I will
mention some values, beliefs, and theoretical perspective that aligned with my research questions
what strategies are most effective for reducing misbehaviour in a lower classroom? As a result, I will
generate a set of personally meaningful research questions to guide answering my research question.
Also, discussion of how teaching practice fit with my question. I will base in some methods to collect
data such as observations and interview in order to answer my research question. After that, I will view
the best way to analyze collection date, and plan to collect more data in next semester due to see if
there is matching between the date and literature review.
Plan for action research during teaching practicum:

School Setting:

This action research been based work in an international private, primary and secondary school, located
in Ajman, UAE. Ajman Academy School is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate
Primary years program from Pre-Kg through to Year 6, and is a candidate for MYP and the Diploma
program. My research will be focused in lower classes, through observing most effective classroom
strategies to reduce misbehavior by taking field notes, interviewing teacher, taking photos and video. I
will focus in lower classes because the strategies changed by the age group, and will observe teacher by
different gender to see if the strategies is effective most with male or female teacher.

Summary of the literature reviews:

I selected five articles and analyzed them so I realized that Classroom management strategies
are the management of students within the classroom so that maximum learning can occur. It is
focused on the positive reinforcement of the required behaviour by the teacher. These articles
showed a variety of students misbehaviour in lower class, a variety of strategies that teacher
used in reducing misbehaviour, and how teacher reaction toward students misbehaviour could
be different by schools, classes, teacher gender, and student gender, etc. However, they
illustrate the importance of having appropriate steps in controlling misbehaviour and give
different responses to each individual student because the student is different from each other.
The articles helped to find out what are the process that made the strategies effective and the
sequencing of implementing the strategies in the classroom.

Discussion of teaching practice

In each semester I go to the school to take experience and train myself to develop weak areas
in my teaching. One of my challenging weaknesses was controlling misbehaving in the
classroom. I used various kinds of strategies to reduce misbehaviour, such as eye contact,
reward system, clapping hands, etc. losing control toward misbehaviour in the classroom lead
to worse results such as;

Dont achieve the learning outcome of the lesson.

Spent a great deal of time and energy to manage the classroom.

Retard the smoothness and effectiveness of teaching.

Create un-safe environment in the classroom.

Teaching practicum is a chance for me to collect data and answer my investigations, practice
which kind of strategies is most effective when I will teach.
Discussion of data collection methods

I aim to make qualitative research to look in depth at non-numerical data by using photo,
videos, note take, or spoken work as evidence. Also, use a predefined set of procedures to
answer the research question.

- Participant
Ajman academy school, lower classes (grade one) they will join this study.
Two teachers who are experience teaching grade one invited to join individual interview.

- Methods
- Interviews

It involves asking questions and getting answers from the participant in the study. I will
make two interviews during this teaching practicum, because I want to fully understand
teachers reaction toward misbehaviour, and use their answers to questionnaires. Through
interviewing Miss Adele I found out that her beliefs and understanding about misbehaviour
is different than the results in the literature review. This leads me to plan for more
interviews in this TP and for next semester, to see others understanding, experiences and
perspective of most effective classroom management, and help to get full range and depth
information.

- Observation
I selected this method because it is appropriate for collecting data on naturally occurring
behaviours in their usual context. (Celano) It helps to gather accurate information to answer
my research question. Later, it will help me to find different ways to check for nonverbal
expression of feelings, determine teacher interaction toward which kind of misbehaving,
grasp how teacher and students relationship reduce misbehaviour, and check for how much
time the teacher needs or spent to stop misbehaviour. Also, it provided me to set up a
source of questions to answer my research question.

- Possible methods for analysis

- Thematic Analysis
It is a widely used method of analysis in qualitative research(komori) I will use it to
analyze my data collection information and to systematically gain knowledge and empathy
about a behaviour, teacher interaction toward misbehaviours, lower classes misbehaving, in
the classroom. It is encouraging me to consider and code all data, and allowing for new
impressions to shape my interpretation in different and unexpected directions. I preferred
to use it because it allows me to use any theory I want in my research rather than being
specific. The flexibility of thematic analysis allows for a rich, detailed and complex
description of my data.
Pilot study

A pilot study is a research study conducted before the intended study. Pilot studies are usually
executed as planned for the intended study, but on a smaller scale(Payne) Depending on data
collection I gathered through interview and observation I found some effective strategies reducing
misbehaviour in lower class such as establishing a good relationship with students. In future, I will use
this strategy because as the child knows that they can also receive positives form the teacher and a good
relationship is upheld. For example, a child who has had time out knows that he /she can return to the
classroom and if they work well can still receive a verbal praise, and/or sticker for their work during the
same day and so teacher encourages the students to repeat the good behaviour. According to
Psychologys Skinner who believes changes in in behaviour are a result of individuals responses to
events, or stimuli that occur in their environment (Hussung, 2016)When we reward the student for
good behaviour he/she will repeat it in future. On the other hand, I like reflection Sheet strategy to use
when a student is displaying unacceptable behaviour. But I will not use it in future for all of my students
if they didnt follow the rule of the class because each individual student is different from other and so I
will give different responses to each individual student. However, in future, I aim to see which strategy
is good and work with all students without any expectation.

Issues impact the research:

I faced problem to make interview with more than one teacher because teachers didnt have
time, and my time didnt fit with their time and so this leads me to change the plan many time,
and didnt reflect on their answers to look if I need to change the questions in the interview or
maybe their answers leading me to have more investigations about my research question.
Also, when I observed lower classes that I didnt teach them, the students changed their
behaviour which that impact to find out what type of students misbehaviour is most in lower
classes. In addition, teacher reaction toward misbehaviour could be changed too when I
observed them. I think taking videos without sitting in the class give a true results and reliable.
