ABSTRACT

leprosy patients in Singkawang reached 38 people in 2013 to 2015 , with the

type of MB leprosy ( multibacillary ) numbered 30 people and leprosy type PB (
Pausibasiler ) amounting to 8 people . Based on the level of disability , disability level 1
totaled 13 people , disability level 2 about 10 people and who do not have disabilities No
15 ( RS Special Leprosy Alverno , 2016
The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship
between knowledge and attitudes of leprosy patients in the prevention of disability.
This research is quantitative research with this type of study Analytical
Correlation. This study used cross sectional design with the aim to determine whether
there is a relationship of dependent variables (knowledge) of the independent variable
(attitude in the prevention of disability) in unit time (Dharma, 2011) and one measurement
using a measuring instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The sample in this study
were all patients of type MB leprosy (multibacillary) in Special Hospital Alverno, from
`2013 to 2015, which amounted to 30 people. Determination of the samples used in this
study using total sampling. The data collection is done by using the means of
observation. While the analysis used were univariate and bivariate frequency distribution
form using the chi-square test.
The results showed that the respondents who have a good knowledge will
have a good attitude towards the prevention of disability . From the statistical calculation
with chi square p value 0.002 , which means that the value is smaller than the
significance value of 0.05, then Ha will be accepted.
The conclusion from this study that there is a correlation between knowledge
with attitude leprosy patients in prevention of disability . The better the value of
knowledge , the attitudes in the prevention of disability is also getting better , and vice
versa . Suggestions for nurses in order to improve patients' knowledge about leprosy for
example by providing health education on general knowledge about leprosy and
prevention of disability
