1. OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this procedure is to provide for a system and instructions, and to assign responsibilities for
identification, segregation, handling, storage and safe disposal of wastes (hazardous & non hazardous)
resulting from FABCON activities.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Departmental Heads in cooperation with the HSE Officer are responsible for identifying waste streams
that are associated with significant environmental aspects, also responsible for defining general control
requirements for the relevant types of wastes.
HSE Officer is responsible for developing the appropriate control measures. Production Head is responsible
implementing the control measures, processing & handling the waste generated. Commercial Head is
responsible for disposing the waste materials.
3. PROCEDURE:

3.1. Identification of Waste streams:

The HSE Officer with the assistance of departmental heads shall analyze the major waste streams to
identify the following:
Processes and activities that generate wastes
Characteristics and types of the generated wastes including determination of hazardous waste
Quantification of wastes.
Wastes associated with Fabcon activities
Discarded PPE items (Gloves, shoes, Cover all, etc) - Non Hazardous
Discarded cartons, packing items etc. - Non Hazardous
Discarded stationery items - Non Hazardous
Cutting oil used in machines- Hazardous
Cutting oil spilled steel waste and sand - Hazardous
Used oil generated during periodic maintenance- Hazardous
Left over Welding electrodes Hazardous
Worn out Grinding and cutting discs- Hazardous
Discarded Electronic waste- - Hazardous
Used garnetHazardous
Used paint cans- Hazardous

3.2. Segregation, Handling and storage of wastes:

Wastes are segregated as per hazardous and non hazardous. Hazardous wastes are again segregated
based on its type. Separate bins (appropriate containers) are provided for Non Hazardous and
Hazardous wastes of each type. These bins are labeled (identified by signs) and kept at designated
places. Every employee is given awareness, to identify and put the waste different types of wastes in
designated bins/containers. Special storage areas and arrangements shall be provided depending on the
type, quantity and level of hazardous of the material. Adequate ventilation and controls to minimize the
risk, prevent pollution and mitigate impacts of accidental spills, releases or contamination are ensured.
Personal protective equipment and training shall be given to those, who handles wastes
3.3. Disposal of wastes:

Non Hazardous wastes: Service agreement for disposal of non hazardous waste is made with approved
agency for safe disposal. Skips/bins/appropriate containers are placed in fabcon premises by approved
agency. General wastes are transferred to these containers daily and are removed from fabcon premises
periodically.
Hazardous wastes: Hazardous wastes are stored in designated containers. They are disposed through
authorized/approved agencies. Approved agencies collect these wastes at requested intervals and do
appropriate treatment/disposal.
3.4. Prevention of Pollution:

The ultimate objective of the material and waste management program is to prevent pollution.
The HSE Officer with the assistance of departmental heads shall analyze the waste streams and the
processes and activities that generate wastes in order to identify opportunities for:
o Reduction of waste generation,
o Waste recycling and treatment,
o Material substitutions and process changes, and
o More efficient use of materials.
The opportunities for improving performance related to prevention of pollution are defined in
terms of environmental objectives and targets as described in the HSE Objectives & Targets
Procedure.
