Secondary Lesson Plan- 6th grade Math

InTASC STANDARDS

Learning Environments: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual
and collaborative learning and that encourage positive social interaction, active engage in learning, and
self motivation by having the students work individually and in groups to find factors and simplify
mathematical expressions.

Content Knowledge: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of
the discipline she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects accessible and
meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the concept by making sure all students understood the
concept and can solve the problems.

Nevada Core Curriculum Standards for 6 grade Math:

Compute fluently with multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples.
Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions.

Objective: Students will be able to (SWBAT) to choose the correct factors and simplify algebraic
expressions. (Applying level)

Materials:

Factoring review Power Point slides.

Chrome books.

Instruction-learning Process

First, I will remind the class this is a review of Factoring to simplify algebraic expressions and that this
will be on the test to give them an incentive. Then I will teach the concepts verbally for auditory learners
and by showing the Power Point presentation for visual learners. (25 minutes)

Guided practice

Students work in groups while teacher walks around helping and making sure everyone understood the
lesson. This is the kinesthetic part where students learn by doing. (30 minutes)

Independent Practice: Students get the Chrome Books and sign into Aleks website to practice factoring
and learning by doing. Students are applying, implementing, and demonstrating the skills and lesson
taught. Teacher still walks around helping and answering questions. (30 minutes)

Exit Slip: A quick assessment, an individual check that each student accomplished the subjects
observable objectives through the learning activities in the independent practice. (5 minutes)

Reflection

For 6th Grade level Math:

The student Compute fluently with multi-digit numbers and find common factors and multiples.
Apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions.

The students have high engagement and active learning while listening to the teachers explanations of
the lesson and by following the Power Point presentation. In my opinion it is a strong lesson without
weak points. I practiced the InTASC Learning Environments standard by having the students learn in
groups and individually. I practiced the InTASC Content Knowledge standard by knowing the material
and walking about the classroom making sure all students learned the concepts taught.
