Question: Where is Ethiopia?

Summary: Ethiopia is located in Northeast Africa between Somali, Sudan and Kenya. It was an
oldest independent country and the largest proportion of population in Africa. Many country in
this continent were invaded by European country. However, Ethiopia remain free. Italy start to
invade Ethiopia during World War II. In 1896, Italy gave Ethiopia an independence but
retains control over Eritrea. The main problems in Ethiopia are drought and famine
because it has just a little rain fall. Also, people cut tree for firewood. So, crop wont
grow because soil isnt abundantly. More than seven million people in this country has
no food to eat. Moreover, there has no enough doctor to take care peoples health. A
doctor has to take care of more than 24,000 people.
Analysis and opinion: I knew that this country are faced to the poverty problem such as famine
but I havent know that much about this country. In my opinion, this country may be very poor
because if it has a lot of money why the government didnt spend it to develop the country
especially solving the poverty problems. Even it was an independent country but it still be an
undeveloped country. I think the main reason why Ethiopia still be an undeveloped country is
spending a lot of money during the war. Thus, it is a poor country at this time.

Question: Why Ethiopia is considered to be a developing country? & What is social issue in
Ethiopia?
Summary: In term of developing country, it is just an euphemism for poor country. Ethiopia
is one of the poorest countries in the world. People have less education and literacy
rate, which mean people have less money and income because education is important
for human but some people think that they dont need an education because they need
to go to work and earn money. Its more necessary. Only ten percents or less have an
education. Furthermore, women have a higher rate of pregnancy and also lead to HIV.
There are more than seven percents of the population that have a HIV. In Ethiopia, there
are more than more than 44% of the population lives in the rural area and are suffering
from poverty as well. Moreover, Lack of rainfall leads to drought. They are suffering
from food scarcity, poor health conditions and maybe deaths. People in this country also
speak many different language so its hard for people to communication. Also, they had
been spent a lot of many for the Eritrean-Ethiopian War. This war also killed a lot of people
and destroyed Ethiopian economic.
Analysis and opinion: In my opinion, there are many factors that makes Ethiopia become a poor
country. It can be linked to the problems in the past such as an Eritrean-Ethiopian War or the
problems right now in Ethiopia. Nearly a half of population in Ethiopia are suffering from the
poverty. They dont have an education and go to work because they need money to survive. If
they go to study at school, they have to pay for the school fees and also they cannot earn
money during that time. Furthermore, approximately 7 percents of people in Ethiopia got HIV.
Its because they have no education. So, they dont know how to protect. Many Ethiopian speak
a different language. Its hard to unite the country and make people become in harmony.
Moreover, people have different religion belief that causes some conflict in the society.

Question: What is MDG?
Summary: MDG stands for Millennium Development Goals. It is an agreement between 191 UN
members that will try to improve their countries by the year 2015. In 2000, the leaders of each
country come to sign a declaration for combat poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental
degradation, and discrimination against women. There are eight specific target, which are to
eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, to achieve universal primary education, to promote
gender equality and empower women, to reduce child mortality, to improve maternal health, to
combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, to ensure environmental sustainability and to
develop a global partnership for development.
Analysis and opinion: As I found an information about Ethiopia, I found that Ethiopia is a poor
country and people also dont have enough food to eat. Ethiopia also committed in 191
countries that come to sign the declaration. However, there are still face to poverty problem
because of many factors. People still dont have an education which can have them to improve
their lives. Furthermore, its drought and there is a little rainfall which mean there is low quality of
agriculture in Ethiopia because they cannot grow a crop. Thus, our group decide to choose
eradicate extreme poverty and hunger as our MDGs.

Question: How Ethiopian economic going?
Summary: Most of income of Ethiopia come by agriculture, fishing, Mineral and mining, energy
and tourism. Many other economic activities depend on agriculture, including marketing,
processing, and export of agricultural products. Production is overwhelmingly of a subsistence
nature, and a large part of commodity exports are provided by the small agricultural cash-crop
sector. Moreover, the economic in Ethiopia has been grown approximately 10 percents per year
during five years. It improved infrastructure and more effective farming techniques. Strong
economic growth has reduced the percentage of the population living in poverty.
However, the poor quality of government causes the countrys economic hasnt grown
as well as it should be.
Analysis and opinion: For an economic, it improve a lot in last five years. I think it is because the
leader of Ethiopia has been signed the declaration of MDGs in 2000. Most of income come from
agriculture but people still dont have food to eat because they sell all crop to get money to do
other things. In my opinion, Ethiopia increases a rate of economic a lot. Its a good thing but low
quality of government can affect the country a lot.

Question: How poverty in Ethiopia affect the country?
Summary: Miriam-Webster give a definition of poverty as the state of one who lacks a usual or
socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions. Poverty can lead to poor health
or death. Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Climate variability lead to
increase poverty rate, food insecurity, water scarcity and other negative impacts. The main
factor that can lead to poverty in the country is lack of rainfall or drought. Droughts cause a lot of
poor farming families to live without food crops. Moreover, it leads to hunger and periodic
famine. Most of the people in Ethiopia lack of coping mechanisms designed to help them face
famines induced by drought. HIV can be another factor that can cause a higher rate of poverty
because it kills a lot of young people who suppose to be a most productive member of family in
the future.
Analysis and opinion: Our group decide to select eradicate extreme poverty and hunger as our
MDGs. For our solution about this problems is donation and volunteering. We think that Ethiopia
is a very poor country. So, they wont have enough money to improve their country. The best
solution for this problem is donation and volunteers from other countries. It is a good solution
because they can use money from the donation to improve their country such as education,
health care and transportation. Moreover, volunteer can come to teach Ethiopian. Ethiopian can
learn for free. They will improve themselves in many ways such as eating clean food.
Furthermore, the government should avoid to receive the refugees because it may affect to
country supplies and money.
