Q.1 What are different software package used in CAD. Give specification of CAD work station.

sketch/block diagram. State the different applications of CAD in an engineering field. Justify the
need of CAD in engineering area.

Assignment 2: Computer graphics

Q.1 What is Computer Graphics? Sate General application of computer Graphics.


Q.2 What is a geometric transformation? Define and explain the following With respect to 2-D
transformations (any three).
Q.3 Explain the following two-dimensional geometric transformation.
(i)Translation (ii) Rotation (iii) Scaling (iv) Reflection (v) Shear
Q.4 A triangle A (1, 1), B (7, 1) and C (4, 5) is to be translated such that the point X (4, 3) within
the triangle coincides with the origin after translation. Using the homogenous coordinate
system, determine the coordinates of the vertices for a translated triangle.
Q.5 A triangle ABC with vertices A (0, 0), B (60, 30), C (0, 30) is to be scaled by a factor of 2
about a point (60, 30) Determine new vertices of triangle.
Q.6 The composite transformation of the graphics element consist of the following operations:
(i) rotation about 45 about X-axis
(ii) translation through -10 and 10 units along X and Y direction respectively, and
(iii) Scaling by factors 0.5 and 2 in X and Y directions respectively.
Write the homogeneous transformation matrices for the above operations and develop the
composite matrix, if the operations are done in above sequence.
Q.7 The coordinates of three vertices of triangle ABC in working coordinate system (WCS) are:
A(3,2), B (7,2) and C(5,6) with reference to the model coordinates of the software, the
coordinates of origin of working coordinate system are (6,4). If the axes of WCS are at 30 in
CCW with respect to the axes of MCS, determine the coordinates of vertices of triangle ABC
in MCS.
Q.8 A triangle PQR with vertices P (2, 5), Q (6, 7) and R (2, 7) is to be reflected about line y=0.5x
+ 3. Determine
(i) The composite transformation matrix.
(ii) The coordinates of the vertices for a reflected triangle.
Q.9 A rectangle ABCD has vertices A(1,1), B(2,1) ,C(2,3) and D(1,3) . It has to be rotated by 300
CCW about point P (3,2). Determine (i) the composite transformations of matrix and (ii) the
new coordinates of rectangle.
Q.10 A triangle ABC with vertices A (30, 20), B (90, 20) and C (30, 80) is to be scaled by factor
0.5 about a point X (50, 40). Determine (i) the composition matrix and (ii) the coordinates of
the vertices for a scaled triangle.
Q.11 Reflect the diamond shape polygon whose vertices are A (-2, 0), B (0,-1), C (2, 0), D (0, 1)
about an arbitrary line L which is represented by equations y=0.5x+1.
