Question: Overview of Laos
Summary: Laos is once under Frances control. Laos has no area that is attached to the sea.
Analysis and opinion: I think this might lead to their economic problem. Since they could not
communicate or trade with other countries. As a result, the money that is used to encourage
and improve education.

Question: What is the main problem(s) in this country?
Summary: Laos is facing a lot of problems, but the most significant one is the education
problem. Almost half of Laos citizens do not cannot read or write. Percentage of female who
can read and write is less than male.
Analysis and opinion: I think that education is the most important factor for any country which
would like to survive and suit the millennium century. Since their people are educated, other
problems will be solved too.

Question: How could Lao government solve this problem?
Summary: Lao government always work with some private organizations and come up with
projects. For example, Lao Education Assess, Research and Networking (LEARN) Project,
SQIP and ELSP
Analysis and opinion: Laos should use different methods to solve different problems from
particular areas because in each areas, there are different causes. The government, in my
opinion, is doing right on using specific programs.

Question: How are these programs effect the education problems.
Summary: LEARN is mainly focus on the researching program that can be used in every
continents of Laos. SQIP is mainly focus on improving teachers skills. ESLP is mainly focus on
helping the poor children to reach the basic education.
Analysis and opinion: Actually there are more than the listed programs that are created to help
education problems. In my opinion, they are already good to have those plans of development,
but the money that is used to encouraged the ministry of education is still not enough. One of
the reason is that Laos has no area attached to the sea, so there are less income for the
country to use to develop.
