Indudablemente, las mara-
villosas propiedades construc-

el hormign armado, rene
unas caractersticas hasta aho-

El progreso en el estudio
de este material ha sido in-

brication.

I n this paper a description is given, more graphie t h a n analytical, of the various prefabricated units , made of concrete,
which could be useful both for structural and plastic purposes in architecture.
If prfabrication is to be effective it is essential t h a t similar parts should be repeated in large n u m b e r s : it is then t h a t
t h e economic advantage becomes noticeable. At present much attention is given to precast units which are suitable as
form forming, or shaping u n i t s . Bui this involves difficulties, since the form originates in problems of strength and
stability, and precast units must consequently adapt themselves to these requirements.
A n o t h e r question is t h e need t h a t precast units should be easy to mould, and to produce in quantity, if they are to have
a d v a n t a g e over other constructional media.
T h e r e are also problems related to the handling, transport and storing of precast units, A unit which is very effective
within a total structure may prove, for instance, very fragile when handled separately. I t should also be essential t h a t
precast units have definite a t t a c h m e n t points, from which it can be lifted and moved, to its final position.
I t will be appreciated t h a t if precast units are to be really useful they must satisfy certain m i n i m u m requirements, both
architectural and civil, whose a t t a i n m e n t will require special care and study in their design. The author attempts to con-
tribute in this sense and so give support to the large section of the building industry which would like to see a full
exploitation of the obvious practical advantages which prfabrication offers.

damit der wirtschaftliche Vorzug hinsichtlich anderer Methoden merken lasst, namlich a n d e r e r Konstruktionsmethoden,
i n n e r h a l b eines Industrialisationsprozesses formen lassen, derihnen einen klaren Vorzug den a n d e r e n Materialien gegeniiber
verleiht.
