Research Paper: Registered Nurses

I chose to pursue the career of a Registered Nurse which is a medical profession.

Registered nurses care for people with acute illnesses and teach their patients how to stay healthy

or how to cope with it. They may give medicine, treatments, tests, injections, or draw blood as

perscribed by the physician, observe patients for physical, mental, social, and/or emotional

changes and record changes or reactions to illnesses and/or drugs; take temperature, pulse, blood

pressure, or other vital signs and maintain health records.

The skills necessary for the job are: the ablilty to evaluate information or symptoms, the

ability to prepare and administer treatment or medications, the ability to maintain charts and

records neatly and accurately, knowledge or medical terminology, willingness to provide

personal services to patients, the ability to complete and explain insurance forms, the ability to

administer electrocardiograph (EKG) test, the ability to follow medical records control procedure,

and the ability to use extensive care treatment skills.

The basic abilities someone would need for the job are: To compile information;

manipulate objects, tools and machinery; write effectively and legibly; visualize objects in

pictures, drawings, and descriptions; see slight differences in objects; use hands to reach; use

hearing when conversing with others; work well with people and work as a member of a team;

make decisions using data and facts; make judgements using experiences; remain calm in ritical
situations; work according to set standards; perforn effectively under stressful conditions; use

transferring techniques;work independently; and plan and organize the work with others. The

average abilities required are: use numbers and basic math skills; see and have near acuity; pay

attention to detail; use physical coordination; and use manuel and finger dexterity. The above

average abilities needed are: read, learn, and understand instructions and procedures;

communicate both verbally and in writing; and work accurately.

The educational requirements towards a registered nurse career is first a highschool

diploma. That is needed to enter a school of nursing and then you have a choice of either getting

a bachelors degree or an associates degree to enter in the competitive nursing programs.

Lisceneced vocational nurses can also take additional training to become a RN.

The national median wage for a registered nurse is $3,863 for entry pay level, $5,917 for

average pay level, and $8,467 and up for top pay level. The California median wage for a

registered nurse is $6,660 for entry paid level, $8,487 for average paid level, and $10,431 and up

for top paid level.

The National career outlook for current employment projections of registered nurses in

2024 are a 13.5% increase in demand with an estimated 3,190,300 job openings to 2024 with an

estimated 1,088,400 yearly job openings.

This occupation interested me when I went to a counselor last year. I wanted to become a

pharmacist in the beginning but it changed when I found out my cousin is an RN and it sparked

my interest in the field. The learning styles I prefer are learning by visual cues and by doing as

well because my hearing is absolute crap. I also chose the medical field specifically because I

love helping people and I always want to try my best and help when I can. As a nurse, it's your
job to help people whether it's with an illness a patient is struggling with, conforting families

when their loved ones are in critical condition, or even just by greeting the patients with a smile

and letting them know they are okay.

The Myers-Briggs career report showed that my preference traits were ISFJ, which is

Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging. The introversion means that I prefer to look at the

world and focus on the ideas and impressions of those around me instead of the people

themselves. Sensing means I prefer to take my information from my five senses and focus on the

here and now. Feeling is about how I make my decisions, which are primarily on values and are

subjective evaluation of person-centered concerns. This means that I would not just look at what

is on paper about the person, instead I would want to look at them and see who they really are.

Finally Judging is about how I prefer to have a more organized approach to life and want to have

things settled. The Myers test also has a page saying that the most attractive job branchs for

someone with my letters are healthcare support, office and administrative support and Healthcare

practitioners. So with the info from this test it does seem like the career path I chose is in the

right direction.

For my SII test I scored ISC which stands for Investigative, Social, and Conventional. It

also says the top 5 prefered careers for someone with my score would be medical science,

healthcre services, science, nature and agriculture, and military. You can see the pattern that I

have a strong interest in the Healthcare profession and that it would be a great fit for me.

My colors on the Trucolors test was blue and being a registered nurse is blue and green.

So all in all, the perfect career for me would be to become a Registered Nurse.
