Good afternoon. To summarize the points and arguments presented by the opposition,
these can be categorized into four overarching ideas.
Speaking of alliances. While Russia and China, in past years, have seemed to ally
themselves with North Korea, recently, China specifically has started to dissociate themselves
with North Korea. Why? Because they know the implications. Should they side with North
Korea, it will be tantamount to going against the United States, the sole global superpower, and
all her allies. Moreover, United States, Russia, and China are all bound by primarily as members
of the UNSC to keep global peace, INCLUDING with North Korea. They all know this, and thus
is why are committed to diplomacy, when dealing with North Korea.
While Trumps words and actions may seem otherwise, rest assured that he is fully
aware of the impacts and implications an invasion of North Korea would bring; and thus, has
recently started to pursue diplomatic talks once more, instead of making threats of war.
Next, would be the economic context of this invasion. Again, there is absolutely no
reason at all to invade North Korea. What benefits could this invasion bring to ANY country,
even those caught in the crossfire? Absolutely nothing. Neither of the opposing countries will
gain anything from this meaningless war. The United States will not gain economically from this
invasion, and in fact will only take serious losses. As the deputy leader of the opposition said,
this would cost the US around 601 billion US dollars, a cost that far outweighs the victory. And
then what? Keep in mind that North Korea is one of the poorest nations in the world, and should
they lose this hypothetical war, not only will they be taxed by the US to pay for repair and
damages, they themselves will have to rebuild back from the ashes, with almost naught to begin
with. Which would lead then to the third argument;
The moral side of things. First and foremost, war, in any way, shape, or form, is immoral.
War is only declared if and only if all forms of diplomacy, negotiations and treaties fail. We must
not let this reach that point. Think of it as a disease- a way of prevention is better than a cure
right? The same is true in this context. Ultimately, the prevention of war is far better, for
EVERYONE, than trying to end a war, with the quickest way possible, which is total obliteration.
Moreover, let us take into consideration what is at stake here. Millions of lives, for gods sake,
an entire country will be lost here. Innocent people, deprived of their rights, suffering under a
tyrannical dictator, unable to speak out for themselves, and the government wants to what,
exactly? To massacre the entire nation, all for the sins of one man. There is simply no way at all
whatsoever to justify this. The punishment, should the United States continue to pursue this
useless endeavor of basically a show of power, should only be upon Kim Jong Un himself, and
all those who consciously conspire with him. Leave the innocents alone. Thank you.
