1.3 Diagnostic interface drivers
If your Windows system above XP (that is Windows: Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1) has an
internet connection, it will most probably use it automatically and the drivers to the
connected device will be installed automatically. However, some errors may occur in the
Windows system, so if the communication of the computer with the diagnostic interface
(the vehicle) is disturbed, you should check whether the diagnostic interface drivers have
been installed correctly. If they are installed correctly you can omit the next steps of this
paragraph. Remember that if you use a wireless connection you should configure it first
(your computer will neither find nor connect itself with the wireless device just like it
takes place through USB port). The configuration of the wireless Bluetooth connection is
described in Par. 3.1 of this Manual).

1.3.1 Installation and COM ports check

The installation needs to be checked in order to verify whether the drivers have been
installed and to check COM ports numbers which are required for the configuration of
MaxiEcu.

1.3.1.1 Windows XP
For this purpose open the Windows control panel. One of the methods to start it is to
type in Control Panel on Windows Explorer address bar (e.g. My computer,
Libraries).

22
Next open Administration Tools folder.

Next, choose Computer Manager from Administration tools.

23
Select Device Manager in Computer Manager window and click it.

Open Ports (COM and LPT) in the Device Manager. If you find the ports set for
the wire transmission via USB port with the described name of the device (it is Serial
Port for MPM-COM interface) it means that the drivers have been installed and they
should work properly. If you use a wireless transmission you should configure Bluetooth
connection first (par. 3.1. of this Manual). When finished, new COM ports for Bluetooth
transmission should appear as in the picture below.

Then click right button of your mouse, pick properties

Click right finger button on correct COM port, pick properties , then port settings and
advanced.

24
Set latency timer on 16ms, and pick OK

25
It should be also checked whether the communication drivers have been installed. To
do this it should be checked whether the USB Serial Converter (this name is applicable
for MPM-COM interface, and it will be different for other interfaces) is installed in the
extended box of Universal Serial Bus Controllers. However, if you use Bluetooth
wireless connection it is possible that the information about the installed communication
drivers is not available in the Device manager. Still, the configured COM port will be
available.

If the drivers are installed and COM ports are assigned for communication, proceed
with the registration and configuration of MaxiEcu.

26
1.3.1.2 Windows 7
Open Control panel of Windows system to start. One of the methods to start it is to
type in Control panel on Windows explorer address bar (e.g. My computer,
Libraries).

Next, open Device Manager window.

27
If there is no Device Manager icon in the Control panel, it means it is divided into
categories and you should select the category Hardware and Sound first.

You will be able to start Device Manager after choosing the category.

28
Open Ports (COM i LPT) in the Device Manager. If you find the ports set for the
wire transmission via USB port with the described name of the device (it is Serial Port
for MPM-COM interface) it means that the drivers have been installed and they should
work properly. If you use a wireless transmission you should configure Bluetooth
connection first (Par. 3.1. of this Manual). When finished, new COM ports for Bluetooth
transmission should appear as in the picture below.

Then click right button of your mouse, pick properties

Click right finger button on correct COM port, pick properties , then port settings and
advanced.

29
Set latency timer on 16ms, and pick OK

It should be also checked whether the communication drivers have been installed. To
do this it check whether the USB Serial Converter (this name is applicable for MPM-
COM interface, and it will be different for other interfaces) is installed in the extended
box of Universal serial bus controllers. However, if you use Bluetooth wireless
connection it is possible that the information about the installed communication drivers is
not available in the Device Manager. Still, the configured COM port will be available.

If the drivers are installed and COM ports are assigned for communication, proceed
with the registration and configuration of MaxiEcu.

The next step is to choose the software registration option. The choice depends on the
purchased version of the license. One option is to assign the software to a particular computer.
In this case it is possible to install and use the program only on one computer using any
interface (ELM327 or MPM-COM). Users holding a license assigned to the device can
attribute it to any MPM-COM interface and to ELM 237 interface with USB port and FTDI
circuit. In these conditions MaxiEcu 2.0 can be operated on any computer that will be
connected to the registered MPM-COM interface with the installed software. The only
requirement is to enter the registration key on each computer on which the software was
installed. In the case of assigning the license to MPM-COM interface in bluetooth version, the
first launch should be performed via cable connection. Any following launch can be
performed as wireless. It also applies to every subsequent installation of the software and
interface in the computer.

55
2.1 Generating the key
If your key is already generated, and you have it on paper or digital version, it is not
necessary to send registration data and generate it second time. If you have license and key
just go to 2.2 or 2.3 chapter.

In the case when you want to generate MaxiEcu 2.0 software assignment key to diagnostic
interface, you have to connect interface to computer then run software, then go to register
program window (by clicking ? icon, and then key icon) , then mark license
associated with usb interface (FTDI based), then you should choose from the list a device
you want to assign with the license.

56
Based on information received from the diagnostic interface personal registration
details will be generated. You should copy them by clicking on the copy to clipboard and
send them using the form available on www.maxiecu.com in Contact tab.

On maxiecu webside in the form in the box Question related to: you should choose
Program MaxiEcu, and in the box I am a member of: you should choose Generating the
key. Next, fill in the other boxes: first name and surname, telephone number and email. In
the last box Questions/comments: you should paste your copied registration data. You can
do it by right-clicking on textbox and choosing Paste. Send the form by clicking send
form.

57
In reply sent you will receive on the given e-mail a key which you will have to enter in
key box. This procedure is described in next point.

58
2.2 Registration with assigning to the interface
If your key is already generated, and you have it on paper or digital version, it is not
necessary to send registration data and generate it second time, but If you dont have
license and key go to 2.1 chapter.
Connect interface by USB cable, before you start the program. After entering the
registration screen (click button with ? icon, then button with key icon) you should select
option License associated with usb interface (FTDI based). After choosing this option it
will be possible to refresh the list of any available devices by clicking Refresh USB
button.

Type License associated with usb intyerface (FTDI based), then mark correct ChipID,
write your key (be carefoul, it is easy to make mistake), and confirm by press OK

59
2.3 Registration with assigning to the computer
If your key is already generated, and you have it on paper or digital version, it is not
necessary to send registration data and generate it second time, but If you dont have
license and key go to 2.1 chapter.

After entering on the registration screen (click button with ? icon, then button with
key icon) you should select the option License associated with the computer. After
choosing this option it will be possible to input the registration details, so write your name,
and e-mail address, then put 3 keys, and click OK button.

of MaxiEcu 2.0, in the same location of the previous installation. In order to do it follow the
steps from Point 1.2 in this Manual.
A newer versions of the software have MPM-COM interface update feature. Every
version of MaxiEcu software released after 17th of October 2014 has the latest version of
MPM-COM interface for the date of the release. Additionally, MaxiEcu software checks the
compatibility of MPM-COM version with the owned one automatically and displays the
interface update information with every attempt of connection to vehicles driver. The manual
interface update is also possible. Both methods will be presented below.
If the update fails, it is recommended to start the update manually.

Warning: During update in program you should set port configuration on FTDI USB

5. Using the program
MaxiEcu 2.0 software has two major functions available for all vehicle makes and two
additional functions for some selected vehicle makes. The second function is reading the
current parameters which enables the cyclic reading of chosen parameters or groups of
parameters. Additionally, it is possible to export the measurements data after they have been
taken.
The first additional function in some chosen vehicle makes and models is testing the
operational equipment. It allows for obligatory switching on some vehicle elements. Thus, it
becomes possible to check the devices which are activated automatically as well as of the
devices which are activated by the vehicle user. In this way you can check whether any faulty
operation of any device is caused by a failure in the same operational device or by a control
element such as a sensor, a button or a switch. However, note that it can be a driver that
becomes damaged and it can lack the complicated input and output operation diagnostics.
The other additional function of the program is the possibility to change settings and
configuration of the drivers for any given vehicle. It also requires a relevant technical
knowledge.
The following paragraphs present the instructions regarding the connection of the device
with the driver for a vehicle, reading the fault codes, faults description and deletion, reading
current parameters, exporting read parameters and testing operational equipment.

Warning: It is important to remember to connect the diagnostic interface first before running
MaxiEcu 2.0 software, then connect interface with vehicle. Otherwise, the
interface will not be visible for the program.
