History of Egypt

I
ts history began six thousand years ago, when Egypt was occupied by a people from
Asia who settled on the banks of the Nile and developed a centralized state.
Egypt is unified around the year 3200 a. C., from Pharaoh Menes.
The Ancient Empire was characterized by the flourishing of the arts and the construction
of immense pyramids. During the Middle Kingdom (2050-1800 BC), after a phase of
decentralization, Egypt experienced a period of splendor in its economy.
The last dynasty was overthrown by the Persians in the year 341 a. C., who in turn were
replaced by Greek and Roman rulers, period that began around 30 a. C. as a result of the
defeat of Marco Antonio in the Battle of Actium, which brought seven centuries of
relative peace and economic stability.
From the middle of the 4th century, Egypt was part of the Eastern Empire, which became
the Byzantine Empire.
After the death of Muhammad, in 642, the Arab invasion takes place, which assumes the
government of the country with the approval of the Coptic Christians. At the end of the
tenth century, for a short time the Fatamids took control of the government.
In 1869 the Suez Canal was opened, but the financial problems they caused served as an
excuse for the British to occupy the country in 1882, an occupation that they would
maintain until 1936.

On July 26, 1952, an armed uprising led by the Movement of Free Officers and led by
General Muhammad Naguib, overthrew the monarchy and established a republic on June
18, 1953, abolishing political parties In 1971 a new Constitution was approved and the
name of the country was changed to its current denomination as the Arab Republic of
Egypt. Since then, Egypt has been in the hands of Hosni Mubarak as president. At the end
of 2010 the Egyptian people took to the streets against the existing political system. The
result is the change of government and the departure of Mubarak.
