About Me
My PRINT 6
In the hospitality and tourism setting, an ideal leader embodies all three areas of the
leadership competencies including business savvy, people savvy, and self savvy. Because
of the customer service focus of the industry, leaders must be able to run a business while
also maintaining positive relationships with clients and building themselves to be better
leaders. Mainly though, leaders in this industry are always focused on the goal of their
business or client. I envision myself to become a leader that always puts the client first,
while being extremely profit oriented. Since I am an excellent planner and numberwise, I
envision myself being an anchor in group settings, that can analyze whether goals are
realistic or not. I also want to always push myself to being more comfortable with group
settings and new people as a part of self development. I will do this by volunteering for a
variety of events I would not normally be apart of, which would also be a great
opportunity for growing my network.
Career Goals
Dream career in the long term
In the long term, I envision myself being an event coordinator for a large
corporation such as the San Diego Police Foundation. I am passionate about
networking, and raising money for a good cause, while also creating unforgettable
experiences for people. Being able to coordinate events for a company like that
would allow me to grow as a business woman and a creative. 1
Ideal position/career/life choice for you 5 years after graduating
For 5 years after graduation, an ideal career for me would be as an entry level
associate at an event company to learn the ins and outs of putting together a variety
of events.
Start at a job that is events related. Either through a hotel or an independent event
company.
Other Goals
Simulations
In the first simulation, I was reserved for the beginning of the brainstorming stage and
was told I needed to talk more. I was also told that I had excellent follow through and
involvement when I was given the task of note taker. Knowing this going into the
second simulation, I forced myself to speak up more in the beginning of the second
simulation and let the team know that I needed a specific task to work on the be
helpful. I also used my strength of being detail oriented to bring the ideas to a doable
level.
2
My Perception and the Perceptions of Others
Both the industry observers and my team members gave me the feedback that I should
talk more. After taking the PRINT assessment, I learned that I am quiet and become
frozen if not given specific guidelines. This was evident in my simulations, since I
was quiet in the beginning when we were brainstorming and figuring things out, nut
became more engaged and outspoken when we had a clear direction of where we were
headed. This taught me to ask for clear guidelines in the future, so I do not waste time
feeling frozen or quiet, and can get going on the task at hand. Both my mentors and
industry observers also told me to work on my tone in group settings. Since I am a
realist, I often shut down ideas that I think are not realistic in order to not waste time.
However in doing so, sometimes my tone seems insensitive and can offend group
members. This is something I aim to work on. I was disappointed that I was not given
more specific negative feedback, other than to work on my spirit of optimism. I wish I
would have received less vague feedback in order to better myself in the future, but
am also pleased that I was not given an abundant amount of negative areas I needed to
work on. Overall, I learned how to better communicate with my peers or group
members both about myself or about the assignment.
