To get the diagrams of P-x-y and T-x-y, series of saturation pressures and temperatures were solved and

data were plotted using Microsoft Excel.

a. At constant P=70kPa:

For a Methyl ethyl ketone (1) / Toluene (2) system, the individual were computed using Antoines
equation:

A B C

Methyl ethyl ketone 14.1334 2838.24 218.69

Toluene 13.932 3056.96 217.625

=
ln

First, 1 and 2 are calculated from this pressure = 70kPa using Antoines equation. Saturation
temperatures are then used to solve mole fraction wt. T:

= 1 1 + (1 1 )2
Use this T to solve alpha.

1 2
ln = 1 2 +
1 + 2 +

We now have a new P2sat.

2 =
1 + 2

Use this 2 to get a new T using Antoines equation. This new T will be used again to get a new alpha.
This process will be repeated until convergence. Through Microsoft Excel, the data were subjected to 100
iterations.

Once converges, we can now get 1 .

1 1
1 =

The values are now complete and can now be plotted.

With the Le Antoines constants of the substances, the are the following,

1 = 35.5219 2 = 12.2982

Total pressure is then solved through the following equation:

= 1 1 + 2 2

For the 1 value, this will be computed using the following equations:
