I aspire to be a teacher that will make the Lord smile. In order to accomplish this

task one must know the ways to live that makes the Lord happy and pleased. The only

source to reference what the Lord wants from us and for us is stated in the Bible. At

Fresno Pacific University this is covered through our required Bible classes and weekly

class devotions.

During my early childhood education bachelors program we were required to

complete the BIB 314 Jesus and the Community class. During BIB 314 we got the

opportunity to explore all of the teachings from Jesus in the New Testament. Though this

class we learn the values and guidelines Jesus leaves to us on how to live a life fueled to

serve the Lord. Jesus stresses that we are here to serve others and not ourselves. It is

better to be selfless. Jesus shows us various ways to serve in the Bible. The whole point

of this class is to learn how to model our lives to the life that Jesus lived. Jesus didnt

come to be served but to serve.

This class essentially teaches us to serve others. We are all created to serve God,

which in turn implores us to serve others. This class helped develop my moral compass

by teaching me what it means to truly serve others and not myself. It is extremely easy to

think of ourselves first and put others second. I believe to be an effective educator it

means you have to serve selflessly without having a hidden agenda, just as Jesus did on

the cross. Jesus Christ sacrificed his life for the people who did not deserve to be saved.

The ultimate human that was blameless in all areas died a sinners death to save others,

when He had the power to rule over all, but without his sacrifice His most precious prize

would be lost. This taught me to take the teaching profession as a selfless venture with

the main goal being to serve children and help them have an exceptional educational

experience.

The BIB 438 Biblical Perspectives for Prospective Teachers class explores the

Old Testament and how it ties into the New Testament. It is a class that helps you

understands the Lords heart and His reasoning for everything. This class opens up a

chance to recognize why the Lord did what He did in the Bible. After completing this

class I saw the Bible for what it truly is and that is the ultimate love story. From the time

man first sinned God promised He would restore His people to Him through a savior.

Gods love for His people has no bounds; He uses the stories in the Bible to teach us the

ways we should go. At the same time the Bible shapes us into who we are. This class

further developed my moral compass by building off of what I learned about Jesus in my

BIB 314 class.

I now saw God for who He truly was and what His intent for me is. It made me

excited to serve His children as a teacher. I know that I will encounter children that I will

get the chance to serve and pray for while they are in my life, much like my teachers have

during my bachelors program. Through these classes my relationship with my Heavenly

Father has grown. With the growth I have experienced in my relationship with God it

makes me want to follow His calling to serve others by teaching and shaping young

minds. Ill be able to introduce the kingdom of God to people by the way I teach my

students and how I work with my colleagues. I plan to always be kind, understanding,

challenging, patient, and loving to all of my students, much like the Lord is with me.

Being a Christian and showing Christs love is to live it out in our day-to-day life.

Teaching will be a part of my day-to-day life.
