Final Essay Outline

Introduction: people tend to suffer from depression. It's something that most people

nowadays are affected by it. Thus, therefore suicide rates have gone up more than ever.

However, even though we as a community and as a nation are seeing this happen right in front of

us we tend to brush it off. Mostly the media. The media tends to not show the real life statistics

on the matter reason being its not as important to the people. In this topic of suicide I want to

bring awareness to the people of the topic talk about what media and other platforms are too

afraid to talk to us about. Now before we start it also is important to not draw to any conclusions.

We most fully understand the topic at hand and mostly realize how much it has impacted our

nation. Furthermore, we must try to work together to find a probable solution and ways to

improve the problem.

I. Topic sentence: it is well known to most of us that people who tend to commit

suicide have been in contact with their doctors months to weeks before they take

their lives.

A. Between 57 percent and 90 percent of individuals who die by suicide

consulted their general practitioner in the year prior to death, with as many as 45 percent

seeing A a physician in the prior month but, more than half obtained health services in

B. In studies of general practice settings, only 36 percent of patients presenting

with symptoms of major depression, were asked about suicide ideation. Meaning that not

even half of people were really asked.(Doherty, Tracie, and Jordan Devylder. pp. 206)

C. suggestion given was that it would be best if a social worker in a primary care

setting can increase awareness of underlying issues, thus leading to further effective

interventions.(Doherty, Tracie, and Jordan Devylder. pp. 207)

II. Topic Sentence: Other aspects that go into the situation could be the areas

people live in. The rural areas have had been linked to the poor mental health of

people.

III. Topic Sentence: Suicide is mostly caused by bullying among US

adolescents because of sexual orientation, gender, and race/ethnicity. That all

these aspects brought with it bullying, name calling.

A. The study also showed that the youth said that bullying was the main

reason for their depression and the idea of suicide.(Mueller, Anna S

pp.980)

B. Race really wasnt the main reason for the bullying neither gender but,

mostly was because of the sexual orientation.(Mueller, Anna S pp.982)

C. However, they did not find any significant interactions in the relation

between bullying and suicide attempts by race/ethnicity or gender. In the

end study of the intersection between race and sexual orientation also

resulted in important new insights found in their studies.(Mueller, Anna S

pp.985)

Conclusion: All in all, to bring awareness for this dreadful crisis, the

understanding of the background and how this impacts society and the nation is key.

Suicide has not only affected us as a community and a nation but other regions and

continues to affect. Many solutions have come up but progress takes time. Nonetheless,

as more people try to solve the situation there is hope that suicide rates go down.
