1.3 Historical background

Early examples:
The history of hospitals has stretched over 2500 years
The earliest documented institutions aiming to provide cures were ancient Egyptian temples.
In ancient Greece, temples dedicated to the healer-god Asclepius, known as Asclepieia ,functioned
as centres of medical advice, prognosis, and healing. At these shrines, patients would enter a
dream-like state of induced sleep known as enkoimesis not unlike anesthesia , in which they either
received guidance from the deity in a dream or were cured by surgery.

Hospitals of Roman Empire :

The Romans constructed buildings called valetudinarian for the care of sick slaves, gladiators, and
soldiers around 100 BCE.
View of the Askleipion of Kos, the best
The declaration of Christianity as an accepted religion in the Roman Empire drove an expansion preserved instance of a Greek
of the provision of care. Following First Council of Nicaea in 325 CE construction of a hospital in Asklepieion
every cathedral town was begun.
By the twelfth century, Constantinople had two well-organized hospitals, staffed by doctors who
were both male and female. Facilities included systematic treatment procedures and specialized
wards for various diseases.
A hospital and medical training centre also existed at Gundeshapur. The city of Gundeshapur was
founded in 271 CE by the Sassanid king Shapur I .

Medieval Europe Hospitals :

Medieval hospitals in Europe followed a similar pattern to the Byzantine ,They were religious communities, with care provided by monks
and nuns .
Some hospitals were multi-functional while others were founded for specific purposes such as leper hospitals, or as refuges for the poor, or
for pilgrims: not all cared for the sick.
The first Spanish hospital, founded by the Catholic Visigoth bishop Masona in 580 CE at Mrida.

1.3 Historical background

Hospitals of Medieval Islamic World :
The first prominent Islamic hospital was founded in Damascus, Syria in around 707 CE.
The public hospital in Baghdad was opened during the Abbasid Caliphate of Harun al-Rashid in the 8th century.
In the ninth and tenth centuries the hospital in Baghdad employed twenty-five staff physicians and had separate wards for
different conditions.
The Al-Qairawan hospital and mosque, in Tunisia, were built under the Aghlabid rule in 830 CE.
The first hospital in Egypt was opened in 872 CE .

Hospitals of Early modern Europe:

In the 18th century, under the influence of the Age of Enlightenment, the modern hospital began to appear, serving
only medical needs and staffed with trained physicians and surgeons.
The voluntary hospital movement began in the early 18th century, with hospitals being founded in London by the
1710s and 20s, including Westminster Hospital (1719) promoted by the private bank C. Hoare & Co and Guy's Hospital
(1724) funded from the bequest of the wealthy merchant, Thomas Guy.

Modern Hospitals :
In the mid-19th century, hospitals and the medical profession became more professionalized, with a reorganization
of hospital management along more bureaucratic and administrative lines.
During the middle of the 19th century, the Second Viennese Medical School emerged with the contributions of
physicians.
By the late 19th century, the modern hospital was beginning to take shape with a proliferation of a variety of public
and private hospital systems.
By the 1870s, hospitals had more than tripled their original average intake of 3,00 patients.

1.4 Goals
To achieve better health level for Peshmarga and their family and this will reduce mortality rate .
Economically to provide all good health needs for Peshmarga and their family with free prize or with lower prize .
To hide many secrets about Peshmarga such as number and reason of injuries from citizen to avoid them feel fear and
confusion .
To build a modern hospital for Peshmarga which offers the latest medical device and higher and the most complex medical
specialties that do not exist in other hospitals in the region .

1.5 Reasons of Selecting Project

The absence of similar projects at Kurdistan generally and at Erbil specially .
The project has been proposed by ministry of Peshmarga .
The needing of Peshmarga for the hospital with a full services that deals with last development in the world .
Sometime a lot of injured Peshmarga transmitted to Erbil hospitals and this cause to crowd on hospital .

1.6 Benefits of The Project :

Ministry of health .
Ministry of interior .
Ministry of higher education and scientific research.
Citizen (Peshmarga and their family) .

adjacent to one of most
crowded roads of Rasht city
with high possibility of rising in
noise pollution in future. For
having less affection from
sound pollution, the
expansion of the building in
the site is in a way to have
most distance from road. In
accordance with Context of
the city Rasht, designer tries
to consider sloppy volumes so
in this way apparently
continuity of sightseeing
