f. Adaptations: Children with ADHD

To adapt with game for children with ADHD, the teacher will allow more
children to be it. The instructor may choose to split the teams in half so there are
a lot of children chasing/being chased. This will create a 1:1 ration so everybody
has to be involved. This will also ensure more attentiveness towards the game and
will get more children interested/excited. Another adaptation the instructor could
make would be to set a time limit and then the teams will automatically switch. This
will give the students a more set game-like schedule which may also increase
attention throughout the activity. Toilet tag will be a great way for these children to
let off steam and energy throughout the course of the day. This would be a great
game to play during recess time or another time where students get to go outside.
Allowing the children to participate outside will give them a huge playing field to run
around in. The instructor could also give the it team a different color t-
shirt/pinnies to wear. This will make the it players stand out and differentiate
them from the opposing teams. This will make the game fairer as it will clearly
separate the two groups. Lastly, the instructor could choose to adapt the game by
after a child is out two or three times, they are out of the game. This will make
the game end quicker if there is a limited time period or the instructor wants to
completely finish the game. Once the children are out, they can cheer on their
fellow teammates. The game will end much quicker as the game ends once
everybody is frozen/has been tagged, or is out. The instructor could then choose
the first two children out and the last two children standing to be it for the next
round. Overall, there are many different adaptations for this population. The main
focus was to include as many children as possible and to keep their attention
throughout the activity. Ensuring a positive and fair environment will allow children
to express themselves and been more attentive throughout.
