Hydraulic elevator
To lower the car, the elevator control system sends a signal to the valve. The valve is
operated electrically by a basic solenoid switch (check out How Electromagnets Work for
information on solenoids). When the solenoid opens the valve, the fluid that has collected
in the cylinder can flow out into the fluid reservoir. The weight of the car and the cargo
pushes down on the piston, which drives the fluid into the reservoir. The car gradually
descends. To stop the car at a lower floor, the control system closes the valve again.
1.2 Structure
The main structure of a hydraulic elevator consists of three units, hydraulic power unit,
mechanical unit and electronic unit. Those units comprise of various components and
fixed to different areas. Detailed information about those components and devices is
shown below, separated by where they are installed.
1.2.1 Machine-room
1.2.1.1 Hydraulic power unit ---- the drive power unit that is installed in machine-room.
Main components of a hydraulic power unit include oil tank, hydraulic pump, motor,
control valve, etc. GUOTAI hydraulic power units work quietly, thanks to our advanced
sealing technology and imported oil tank.
1.2.1.2 Controller ---- cooperating with different control devices, controller controls
speed and all movements of an elevator, making sure it runs and stops correctly and
safely.
1.2.1.3 Pipe(hose) ---- connected to oil tank and cylinder. They transport hydraulic oil
between oil tank and cylinder, therefore, causing different movement of elevator.
1.2.2 Shaft
1.2.2.1 Guide rail
Normally, elevator cars run on guide rails, which are fixed to guide rail bracket. Guide
rails can keep elevator car from shaft wall to a fixed safety distance and support on board
load and weight of car when safety gear works.
1.2.2.2 Hydraulic Cylinder
Cylinder, on which elevator car is based, is installed in the shaft and connected to a
hydraulic pipe (hose). When the pipe (hose) transports hydraulic oil between cylinder
and oil tank, the cylinder rises or declines accordingly, therefore, making movements of
the car.
There are two ways to install the cylinder---- direct and indirect. Just as the name implies,
direct installation means the car is directly connected to the cylinder, while indirect
installation means steel rope and pulleys are installed on the top of the cylinder, working
together with the cylinder to move the car. The ratio of indirect installation is divided
into 1:2, 1:4 and 2:4.
1.2.2.3 Buffer
Being set under cantilever arm/car sling at the bottom of the shaft, buffer is one of the
elevator safety devices. It can bear the impact caused by the car when the car (10%
overloaded) falls down at the speed allowed by the speed governor.
2.7 Please land the car on the ground floor (base stop) if the elevator needs to stop
working for more than one week, making sure cylinder will not expose to air for long
time. Careful inspection is necessary before restarting using.
2.8 Records of repairing and inspection should be specific and well kept.
2.9 The voltage, frequency, phase order should reach requirements mentioned in all
technical documents.
2.10 The elevators working condition should reach the following requirement:
2.10.1 Fluctuation of power input voltage and frequency should be less than 7% and 2%.
2.10.2 No caustic substance, combustible gas and current conducting dust is supposed in
the shaft and machine-room.
2.10.3 Temperature in machine-room should be between -540. Relative humidity
(RH) in machine-room should be lower than 85% (Temperature: 25). Ceiling, floor
and walls in machine-room should be painted to protect devices in the machine-room
from concrete granules.
2.11 All metal shells of electronic devices should be protected by earthing, in accordance
with GB10060 standard or equivalent standards in elevator owners country.
2.12 Elevator car, landing door, door jamb and landing operation panels should be
frequently cleaned up and protected from being scratched.
2.13 Fire-fight equipment should be available in the machine-room and illumination
power line should be separated from control circuit.
3. Safety regulation
3.1 Daily preparation before using the elevator:
3.1.1 Open the door on the current landing floor and check if the car is at the correct
position;
3.1.2 Turn on the car illumination;
3.1.3 Make the elevator rise and decline several times and check if there are any glitches
or abnormal situation;
3.1.4 Make sure landing doors cannot be opened when elevator car is at that floor and
elevator will not operate if any landing door is open.
3.1.5 Check if the elevator car levels accurately.
3.2 Matters need attention during operation:
3.2.1 The elevator should not be overloaded;
3.2.2 None combustible or explosive substance is supposed to be carried by the elevator.
3.2.3 The elevator should not be operated when any landing door is open;
3.2.4 During daily use, all inspection functions should not be activated and passengers
should not push any inspection function buttons at any time.
3.2.5 Escape window/door in the car should not be opened to carry some over-length
objects.

4.1.2 Function 1: Setting moving direction automatically
Once calling signals from landing operation panels and landing signals from car
operation panels are recorded, the elevator control system will decide elevator's moving
direction, based on elevator cars current landing floor. Meanwhile it will show the
direction on all indicators. If signals are from opposite directions, the elevator control
system will response to those signals in chronological order and give signals from the
moving direction priority over those from opposite direction.
4.1.3 Open/unlock and close door automatically
After landing on destination floor, the elevator will open/unlock (manually operated door)
the landing door and close it automatically.
4.1.4 Automatic operation
After all lading doors are closed, the elevator will move towards next destination stop at
average speed.
4.1.5 Automatic slowing down
The elevator will automatically slow down in situations below:
4.1.5.1 There is a landing or calling signal on the next stop in the moving direction.
4.1.5.2 There is a landing or calling signal on other stop in opposite moving direction and
there is no other signal in the moving direction.
4.1.5.3 Elevator car is reaching the top or bottom floor.
4.1.6 Leveling and stop
When the elevator car reaches the landing zone at slow speed, control system will make
the elevator car floor to level with landing floor and then stop the elevator automatically.
4.6.1 Door opening button on car operation panel is available in both attendant and
attendant-less mode when the elevator car lands on a floor.
4.6.2 If passenger or attendant pushes the door opening button, the elevator door will
open when it is closing.
4.6.3 In attendant-less mode, once the Closing door button is pushed the door will be
closed.
4.6.4 In attendant mode, the Closing door button must be pushed and hold on till the
door closed. If the attendant release the button before the door is closed, then it will open
again.
4.6.5 Door opening and closing time
In attendant-less mode, the time between totally open the door and starting to close the
door is 6 seconds.
4.6.6 Open landing door through landing operation panel:
4.6.6.1 Push the Up or Down button on landing operation panel on the landing floor
when there is no other calling and landing signals, the landing door will open
immediately.
4.6.6.2 Push a button on the landing operation panel that is in the same direction as the
elevator is moving when the landing door is closing, the landing door will open
immediately.
4.7 Safety sensor (Automatic doors) and infrared light curtain
If anyone or anything touches the safety sensor on the door when it is closing or detected
by infrared light curtain on the top of door, the door will stop closing and reopen again.
4.8 Inspectional operation
